The timber we use comes from properly managed sources.

We are accredited to FSC and PEFC standards and offer many of our catalogue products with FSC or PEFC certification. Bespoke products are available in most popular timbers with FSC or PEFC certification.

Clive Durose has a policy of continual improvement. This extends to the introduction and adoption of FSC standards across our product ranges whereby we seek to implement the environmental accreditation standards for all products as soon as reasonably possible.

Our factory is regularly monitored to ensure that there are adequate controls on emissions. We recycle our waste, converting sawdust into other products and burning some waste in our bio fuel system to heat our factory.

We are an ISO9002 approved business with well documented policies and procedures, which help our business to run in a controlled and systematic way. The development of our team is underpinned with high standards of training within our well managed modern premises in Trentham, Staffordshire.

The sustainability of valuable natural resources could not be more critical to us. Ensuring that we adhere to the highest ethical and environmental standards are principles at the heart of our business.

At a young age Clive Durose took up wood turning as a hobby. Developing a keen eye for detail, he studied the style and proportions of historic works, reading volumes of classic woodworking books and honing his craft into an art.

In 1981 he started his business, hand turning a variety of timber components for the construction and furniture industries. Using his extensive knowledge and skills he has developed an array of beautiful stairparts to enhance staircases in fine houses.

With unsurpassed attention to shape and detail, Clive Durose has been called upon to carry out work for some of the UK’s most impressive homes and many famous people.

Today Clive Durose has a team of skilled craftsmen, dedicated to the production of the finest stairparts and architectural timber components.

Keeping up with modern woodworking technology, Clive Durose has maintained his core values and high standards whilst embracing the use of the most up to date, advanced machinery and software. The range comprises a choice of three cutting edge spindle designs; ez, flo and vu, which are all available in Oak or ready primed Poplar. All can be used in a uniformed way, or with a little creativity, can be arranged in different ways, allowing you the freedom to make the staircase your own with some truly stunning visual effects. The id ez spindle is a slender shape with opposing cut-outs on each side.

The id ez spindle is stunning when fitted in a uniform way or you can create different patterns by alternating how the spindles are fixed in the stair. With so many possibilities, ez, like the rest of the id range, lets you have a greater say in how your staircase will look.

The id ez spindle is totally unique in its design with a hint of an art deco influence; this slender spindle is popular with those looking for a slightly retro feel to their staircase.

The id ez spindle is available in 32mm primed white. You can install this design with primed white newel posts and handrail or combine with Oak handrail and newels for a contrasting and completely different look.

floflo is a sculpted spindle with subtle curves to create a unique and striking visual effect on the stair.

You simply have to see this effect first hand to get a full appreciation of how a staircase can be transformed into a beautiful feature. When fitted you will see a wave effect which, when viewed from different angles changes shape.

The innovative design also gives the illusion that it is made from a larger piece of timber than its 41mm section, adding to its distinctive appeal. The flo spindle is available in Oak and primed white.

flo is a modern design which is equally as stunning when used in a contemporary setting or to bring a modern edge to a period home. Without compromising architectural heritage, a full staircase of flo spindles is a magnificent addition to any property and will enhance the hallway with its design appeal.

Like other id spindles you can explore different design effects by experimenting with the orientation of the spindles. You can have them all in a uniform direction or fit them back to back. You can also change the spacing between them to create numerous alternative looks. With id you can have more input into the design of your staircase.

vuvu creates a new perspective. Contrasting the simple straight lines of the spindle with an elliptical cut-out adds interest and visual appeal to your staircase.

The elliptical internal feature within a straight spindle is simple and elegant but interestingly different. A balustrade with id vu spindles is a stylish design feature for any modern home.

Just like the two other id spindle designs, vu has the characteristic design style that looks interesting from different perspectives. Seen at an angle you are looking straight through the elliptical cut-out of the straight sided spindle, from another angle, you see a contoured spindle. The shapes created as you move around your staircase are fascinating.

Have you ever thought about a handrail? Not many people have. That’s where our compulsive attention to detail got the better of us.

We said, “It’s got to look just right for the id range, but it’s got to feel really comfortable and be safe and naturally easy to grip. We have yet to see a handrail that can be viewed from both sides simultaneously; we don’t have to make it the same shape on both sides. So we didn’t!”

Breaking the mould, we came up with the id safe-grip handrail, perfectly shaped to fit in your hand and feel reassuringly comfortable. What’s more it complements the id modern stairparts range perfectly, finishing off the top of a balustrade in style.

: : id newel capsTo fit in with the id look these caps have an asymmetric shape with smooth curved edges and corners. Available in oak and white primed, you can finish your posts with the same timber or mix for a contrasting look.

: : id multi-newel Can be used as either a base or a newel.Our multi use newel posts are square with a 50mm diameter spigot and a small detail to help conceal a joint between mating posts. Ideal for refurbishment projects or new staircases these can be used to form a completely new post or convert an existing newel base into a full square newel. They can also be built up into long posts. This flexible idea saves you worrying about which newel post you need for different parts of the staircase.In many instances more traditional stairs may already have newel bases so the id newel can be fitted above this to create a square newel. Half newels are also available for fitting to walls.

: : id baserail id baserail is a functional part used to retain the spindles, simply styled to blend with any spindle style and handrail.

The Trentham collection is available to order in Oak, American Black Walnut, Ash, Hemlock, Sapele and Pine with other popular timbers available upon request. Using the finest selected pieces of these kiln dried timbers Clive Durose make the highest qualitystairparts in this superior range.

: : Newels The Trentham newel posts have the same pattern as the spindles, to create a flowing consistent design throughout your staircase balustrade. Made to a 117mm section, they create a grand statement at the foot of the stair and at each junction. They are complete with a cap, which is designed to complement the newel’s shape.

: : Handrail Choose straight handrails with newel posts and caps or consider a continuous handrail that runs over the top of the posts. You can add to your staircase with features such as volutes and ramps. Whatever your preference you will enjoy the look and feel of these exceptional accessories.

Bold design has always been at the forefront for Clive Durose. Never afraid to be different and always pushing the boundaries of this traditional craft, our modern designs are available in different timbers and sizes.

Modus Oak newels,

Modus

The unique design of the Modus newel post incorporates a chrome finished detail plate which makes a feature of the joint between the post and newel base. This means that a staircase can be installed early on in a build project without the risk of damage to decorative parts which are fitted later. Refurbishment of a staircase is also simplified because existing newel post bases can be cut off square and the detail plate helps to form a perfect joint.

A turned Modus cap or a square cap can be used on top of the newel post.

The contemporary handrail is ideal for the Modus range and alongside the 41mm square section spindles, creates a stylish looking staircase that will stand the test of time.

New to the Modus range is the square Modus spindle. Rather than a turned pattern the shape is produced leaving all four corners square; another contemporary alternative for beautiful stairs.

: : Palace is one of our most enduring classic shapes, this 41mm spindle has three variations. Simply turned to an elegant well proportioned style, you can also enhance the turned spindle with a flute or a twist.

: : Trafalgar is a 41mm spindle with a slightly shorter length of turning. Our version of this popular shape is well contoured and proportioned.

: : Staffordshire is available in both 32mm and 41mm sections. Its simple shape suits traditional and contemporary interiors.

: : Clear Glass PanelsNew from Clive Durose, another designer range, made from finest materials, for modern homes. The system comprises specially grooved hand and base rails with square newels to suit.

It couldn’t be easier to use; a simple groove and spacer system allows you to put panels close together or with spaces up to 90mm between. You can use a mix of wide panels interspaced with narrower ones or all regular sizes to achieve different appearances. The choice of glass panels caters for all situations on the staircase.

Using toughened 8mm glass certificated for use in domestic and commercial projects, these simple panels enable you to create new staircases or refurbish existing ones with ease.

: : Metal BalustersThese simple wrought iron style balusters are yet another way to utilise a traditional baluster in a modern way. The slenderness of the baluster and simple shape of the detailed section results in an elegant spacious appearance which will suit modern or traditional styling.

As with all Clive Durose ranges, the choice of timbers for the handrail and posts lets you decide on the perfect look for your own home.

Our glass and metal ranges share the same handrails and baserails available in our popular premium timbers; Oak, Ash and American Black Walnut all within a three week lead time.

Handrails use a groove and infill system so that you can vary the distance between your choice of panels or balusters.

This results in a high quality finish without the need for unsightly plastic brackets.

Clear Glass panels - available in two widths; 80mm and 300mm for both landing and rake sections. All panels are 10mm thick.

Metal balusters - available in a matt black finish with 13mm square rod and a short forged style detail section. These can be used for 900mm or 1100mm high handrails and can be cut to suit. Again these fit into a 13mm groove for which infill is provided.

Posts are 90mm square and are also available in Oak, Ash and American Black Walnut. You can finish the top of these posts with a choice of simple square caps or our more ornate pyramid cap.

Complex rails made simple: : Made to measure The bespoke nature of each project often requires an on-site digital survey to measure every millimetre of the internal structural metalwork or glass. With the use of highly sophisticated digital measuring equipment and software, we are able to produce a full 3D digital model of the rail, which can be shared with our clients to help finalise design specification.

: : A perfect fit Our state of the art 5 axis CNC machining centres are accurate to within 0.25mm, with each part simulated in real time to ensure that every cut is perfect. Our unique manufacturing methods allow us to pre-machine and fit our fixing bolts to the end faces, so our handrails can be fixed together much faster on site - reducing time, cost and risk factors traditionally associated with installing complex handrails.
