Database Tip: Navigating the search screen in EBSCOhost databases Use the search box for keyword search: accepts Boolean operators AND/OR, truncation/wildcard and parentheses e.g. (mother* OR father* OR parent*) AND (alcohol or "substance abuse").

To search the thesaurus: select CINAHL Headings in CINAHL; MeSH in Medline; or Thesaurus in ERIC.

See our Fact Sheet no.15 EBSCOhost: Search, save, and manage results for step-by-step instructions in searching the EBSCOhost suite of databases.

Medpix The National Library of Medicine hosts MedPix, a "searchable online database of medical images, teaching cases, and clinical topics." As of this write-up, this collection includes almost 54,000 images, including x-rays, photographs, and more, which visitors can explore by conducting a text search. Visitors interested in exploring the collection can browse by diagnosis, which are organized alphabetically.

For example, those interested in learning more about ACL tears can view five x-ray images of this injury, accompanied by information about each image's source and, when possible, information about the patient (such as age) and their specific injury. In total, this collection includes almost 20,000 patient cases. MedPix was designed as a resource for current medical practitioners as well as medical students. MedPix also offers a free Continuing Medical Education (CME) course for current medical practitioners.

PsychoPharm Research app is an outstanding medication decision tree for Psychopharmacology “PsychoPharm Research was created by noted physician and medical-app developer Joongheum Park MD, who is an internal medical physician. Dr. Park has created several notable medical apps, and this current one provides an interactive version of medical decision support trees for psychopharmacology. It should be noted that the

medication decision support trees have backing from a venerable institution. They are developed by the Psychopharmacology Algorithm Project at the Harvard Medical School Department of Psychiatry, South Shore Program (Founded by Dr. David Osser, who is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School). This application really is

tremendous. When dealing with patients who have depression, bipolar, and other psychiatric complaints, primary care physicians often have a difficult time of figuring out what to do when their first line of therapy hasn’t worked. This application helps primary care physicians and psychiatrists go through an algorithm that helps with this decision tree.” Read more ...

AIHW releases new updated data tables for GRIM and MORT books GRIM books are Excel workbooks that contain historical and recent deaths data. They present age- and sex-specific counts and rates by cause of death, alongside other summary measures. GRIM Books are available for all causes of death combined and 54 other cause of death groupings. Download data tables: General Record of Incidence of Mortality (GRIM) books.

MORT books are Excel workbooks that contain recent deaths data for specific geographical areas, sourced from the AIHW National Mortality Database. They present statistics by sex for each geographical area, including counts, rates, median age at death, premature deaths, potential years of life lost and potentially avoidable deaths. The workbooks also present leading causes of death by sex for each geographical area. Download data tables: Mortality Over Regions and Time (MORT) books.

Both the GRIM and MORT Books have been updated with deaths data for 2015.
