Requirements for Observation

• HIPPA General Awareness Training– http://privacy.health.ufl.edu/– Confidentiality Statement– Can get a copy of your certificate on this page– Training MUST be renewed ANNUALLY!

• Immunizations– MMR– Hep B series (must be started)– Varicella TITER– Current PPD

• If more than 1 year old needs to be redone

Signing up for Observation

• Book in 435 Dauer– Variety of populations and locations

• Morning and Afternoon time slots– You should be available for the entire block

– It is disruptive for you to come and go

• Be contentious of your fellow students– Don’t be a “sign up hog”

– Remove your name if you aren’t going

• Do NOT wait until the end of the semester!

Things to Think About

• Signing up for a 4 hour slot does not mean you will receive 4 hours of observation

• Feel free to ask questions – when it is appropriate• The professionals you are observing are not

being compensated for you being there– They are interested in your education

• You are going into a professional atmosphere and are expected to act as such– Which brings me to the issue of ……

Bottoms

• Pants– Nice slacks that have been pressed

• Skirts– Long enough for you and your patient not to feel

uncomfortable when you bend over– Should be no shorter than 2” above the knee

• Dresses– No strapless or spaghetti straps without a sweater or

jacket– Should meet same length requirements as skirts

A Few More Notes

• No more than two earrings per ear, no other visible pierced jewelry

• Tattoos should not be visible; if in a visible spot, they should be covered completely while in clinic

• Outfits that are trendy are not necessarily appropriate for the clinic situation

• If you are not dressed appropriately you may be asked to leave clinic.  You will NOT receive any hours for that day.
