DR MARTYN COBOURNE (Orthodontist) Lectures:

- Biological mechanisms regulating tooth number (Joint) - Obesity and orthodontics (Doctor) - Managing absent maxillary lateral incisors and mandibular second premolars (Joint)

Dr Martyn Cobourne is Professor and Academic Head of Orthodontics in the Faculty of Dentistry, Oral and Craniofacial Sciences at King’s College London. He graduated in Dentistry from King’s College London in 1990 and undertook specialty training in Orthodontics at King’s College Hospital from 1994-1997. From 1998-2002, he was a MRC Clinical Training Fellow in Paul Sharpe’s laboratory at Guy’s Dental Hospital and completed a PhD investigating the developmental biology of early tooth development. He was appointed as a Senior Lecturer and Hon Consultant in Orthodontics at King’s College London in 2004 and promoted to Professor of Orthodontics in 2011. He maintains a laboratory research group at King’s, investigating molecular signalling pathways during early development of the head and face and has also carried out a number of randomised clinical trials investigating the efficiency of orthodontic treatment interventions. He has published more than 140 original articles and is the author of two successful orthodontic textbooks, the Handbook of Orthodontics (now in a second edition) and Clinical Cases in Orthodontics. He was a trustee and Director of Research at the British Orthodontic Society (BOS) (2012-16) and is currently Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Orthodontics. Martyn has presented a number of prestigious lectures including the Charles Tomes Lecture at the Royal College of Surgeons of England (2015) and BOS Northcroft Memorial Lecture (2018). His research has won the BOS Chapman Prize four times (between 2014-19) and in 2019, he won the BF and Helen E Dewel Award for the most outstanding clinical research article published in the AJODO during the previous year. In 2017, he became a full member of the USA Angle Society (North Atlantic Division) and was elected to the Board of Faculty of Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

DR VAS SRINIVASAN (Orthodontist)

Dr Vas Srinivasan graduated with BDS in Chennai (previously Madras) and pursued a Master’s in software systems in the United States. Upon graduation from University of St. Thomas, Minnesota, he moved to the University of Sydney to learn about Orthodontics in 2003. He was the recipient of the international merit scholarship during his post-graduation. He worked with Prof. Ali Darendeliler to publish numerous papers on Obstructive Sleep Apnoea. After working with the department of orthodontics as a clinical director, he moved to private practice on the sunshine coast in 2009 and set up his own clinic in 2012. In 2013, he started a branch practice in Hervey Bay. As the commute got tiring, he obtained his pilot’s license in 2015 and now he flies himself and his staff between his practices. He has been a KOL for Align Technology for 4 years, before he joined the Ormco Spark

team in 2018 to develop its product from scratch. He has treated in excess of 2000 clear aligner cases. Lectures:

(Auxiliary) DR NATHAN VUJCICH (Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon) Dr Nathan Vujcich is a UWA graduate with Honours in both Dentistry (2000) and Medicine (2008). His specialist training in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) was undertaken primarily in the WA public hospital system, but also at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne. After attaining his specialist qualification (2012), he did further post fellowship training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital with a focus on orthognathic surgery. Additional implant based training was undertaken in Switzerland before returning to Perth to commence practice in 2013. Nathan works in private at West Perth Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. In public, he works at Royal Perth and Perth Children’s Hospitals. He was formerly head of the Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital OMS unit for 5 years. He is part of the SCGH Sleep Disordered Breathing MDT, which manages airway patients along with respiratory, ENT and sleep dentistry colleagues. He has an interest in OSA and the use of orthognathic procedures to correct these problems. He has provided lectures on the subject for dental, sleep and ENT conferences previously. Nathan has made a significant contribution to teaching of OMS registrars at a local and national level, and examines national trainees annually for the RACDS. He has been the state ANZAOMS representative for the last 5 years. Lecture:

DR REBECCA WILLIAMS (Paediatric Dentist)

Dr Rebecca Williams is a Specialist Paediatric Dentist who works in private practice at Kinderdental, Claremont, and as a Consultant at Perth Children’s Hospital. She completed a Bachelor of Dental Science at the University of Western Australia in 2005 and a Doctorate of Clinical Dentistry (Paediatric Dentistry) at the University of Melbourne in 2012. Rebecca is the Vice President of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Paediatric Dentistry (WA Branch) and Secretary of Women in Dentistry. She is a member of the Australian Dental Association, Australasian Academy of Paediatric Dentistry, Australian and New Zealand Society of Paediatric Dentistry, Dental Specialists Society of WA, International Association of Dental Traumatology, Australasian Cleft Lip and Palate Association, Women in Dentistry and The D3 Group.

Rebecca particularly enjoys the management of patients with dental anxiety and the emergency management of dental trauma. Outside of work, she is married with two young children, Charlie and Willow, who constantly challenge her paediatric behaviour management techniques! Lecture:

- Oral Habits in Children (Auxiliary) DR JANINA CHRISTOFOROU (Oral Medicine) Dr Janina Christoforou is an oral medicine specialist, who specialises in the management of mucosal disease and orofacial pain. She has been trained in Western Australia and she is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons and a Fellow of the Oral Medicine Academy of Australasia. Dr Christoforou devotes time to teaching and research as a clinical lecturer and research fellow at the University of Western Australia. She is involved in the management of head and neck cancer patients in the Department of Radiation Oncology and is part of the multidisciplinary head and neck cancer clinic at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. She also volunteers her time working with organisations to provide oral medicine services to those disadvantaged in the community. Additionally, Dr Christoforou works in private practice at Oral Medicine WA in West Perth and Western Oral Medicine Group in Kalamunda. Her special interests include prevention and management of oral cancer and its sequelae, mucosal diseases and orofacial pain. Lecture:

DR MAHNAZ SYED (Periodontist)

Dr Mahnaz Syed qualified from Guys Dental School in 1992 following which she practiced as a general dentist for four years and obtained her Diploma in general dental surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons England. Mahnaz commenced her specialist training at the Royal London Dental Hospital in 1998 and gained her specialist M.Clin.Dent with distinction in 2001, during her training she also received the Frank Ashley scholarship for advanced study in Periodontics. During her specialist training she completed her fellowship and membership qualifications from the Royal College of Surgeons England. Mahnaz continued her research at the Royal London Dental hospital completing a three-year treatment study investigating prognostic factors in relation to treatment outcomes in patients with aggressive periodontitis. She continued to work as a specialist periodontist in two

multidisciplinary specialist centres in London and as clinical lead in mucogingival surgery and implant soft tissue augmentation at the Royal London Hospital. Mahnaz has been in Perth Western Australia since 2007 where she practices as a specialist periodontist in her own clinic Elite Perio, Subiaco. She is on the specialist list in Periodontics in the UK and Australia. Mahnaz is an ITI Member and a member of the American Academy for Implant Dentistry, as well as the American Academy of Periodontology. Lecture:

- Fifty shades of pink: Orthodontic soft tissue augmentation (Joint) DI WATSON (Invisalign) Di Watson Di Watson started her dental career in the RAAF as a Dental Assistant for 6 years before leaving to study BApp Health Science (Oral Health) at UQ. Upon graduation Di work with various specialist practices in Periodontics, Oral & Maxillo Facial Surgery, Orthodontics & General Practice throughout SE Qld. Di worked primarily in Orthodontic practice and the same general practice in Brisbane for over 10 years whilst also raising 2 boisterous and rambunctious active boys. In 2012-13 Di spent several weeks per year in Nashville, USA doing an Advanced Oral Health training course looking at the systemic involvement & treatment of microbial pathogens on Oral health through the use of PCR testing. Di join Align Technology in 2015 and has been the Assoc Clinical Manager in NZ, Qld and WA for the past 4yrs and this year has been looking after all ANZ Ortho’s with Clinical Support.
