• The proportion of the environmental poor in total poor under the $ 1.25/ day criterion is estimated to increase from 53% in 2005 to about 70% in 2020, although this proportion of vulnerable poor (under the 2$/day poverty line) will decrease from 85% to 62%.
• Annual economic losses from natural disasters average 13.4% of the GDP of developing countries. 13.4% of the GDP of developing countries.

• For Asia, this means an average physical loss equivalent to $ 39.5 billion.
• During 1990-1998, nearly all (94%) of the world’s 568 major natural disasters were in developing countries, as were more than 97% of all natural disaster-related deaths.
• Climate change is a global phenomenon; its negative impacts are more severely felt by poor people and poor countries.

Heal the World
“ What could be more significant than the future of our World?
As young people, we have the most at stake, so we should be stepping up to our roles as the major
stakeholders and stand up for the kind of future we want.”
