PRAYER TO THE BLESSED VIRGIN (Never known to fail)Oh, most beautiful flower of Mt. Carmel, fruitful vine splendor of Heaven. Blessed Mother of the Son of God. Immaculate Virgin, assist me in my necessity. Oh, Star of the Sea, help me and show me, herein you are my mother. Oh, Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth! High on Horror -- Why We Pay Big Bucks to Be Scared (NewsUSA) - We crave chills.
It's why we get a rush when we see Jason take his axe to some unsuspecting teen in “Friday the 13th” or why we can't seem to look away when Carrie, dripping with pig's blood, incinerates her entire high-school class.
While mesmerizing, to be sure, the real question is: why do we pay for the pleasure of being scared?
On this, there are various schools of thought.
Some believe that fans of horror (be it movies or books) don't actually experience fear, but are excited instead, while others be-lieve that people are willing to endure the terror because they know there is no real threat, that they are essentially safe. Still others feel that moviegoers are willing to be scared in order to feel a sense of euphoric relief at the end.
Whatever the reason, movie studios like Seven Arts Pictures, a Los Angeles-based indie movie production company, are counting on customers who are willing to pay to be petrified, by releas-ing a horror flick like “Night of the Demons”. In the movie, three friends attend a party held in a mansion where, years pri-or, six people disappeared and the owner hung herself.
“We think that people have a morbid fascination with the dark side,” said Peter Hoffman, CEO of Seven Arts. “So even though a horror movie might be illogical on an intellectual lev-el, people still like to be uncomfortable on an emotional level. It's about people facing their fears” he added.
Which makes sense and explains why many of us have (reluc-tantly) stuck our hand down the garbage disposal, just waiting for our fingers to brush up against something (or, perhaps, for the machine to turn on by itself, shredding the hand inside ? la Stephen King), or why we might refuse to put our leg out of the covers at night.
This, too, is why we keep creepy haunted houses busy at Hal-loween, why we tell ghost stories around the campfire and why we turn out for horror movies like they were giving away free popcorn.
It's because we like it.

Albany, NY (July 31, 2012) –Do you have a love for animals and want to support a great local cause? Join with the Gold-stein Auto Group and bring your empty bottles and cans to a Goldstein dealership and support the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society. The Mohawk Hudson Humane Society’s “Empties For Animals” campaign helps support the mission of the organization, includ-ing sheltering, adoption, education, advocacy and the preven-tion of cruelty to animals. This year’s goal is to raise $125,000, in honor of the Society’s 125th Anniversary. To reach the goal, the Goldstein Auto Group will need to collect more than 1,500,000 cans and bottles. The 2012 "Empties For Animals” campaign has raised over $46,000 during the first half of this year, an increase of $12,000 or 34% over the same period last year. The 2011 campaign raised a total

of more than $74,000 and collected 925,000 cans and bottles. Volunteers sorted all those bottles and cans, based on the originating distributor, which in turn generated $.08 per can or bottle instead of the regular $.05 redemption fee paid at stores. Monies from the program were used to benefit the more than 6,500 animals cared for by the Society in 2011. “We are very pleased to continue our partnership with the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society and support the 2012 “Empties For Animals” campaign. We would like to thank all of our custom-ers and the members of the community who have generously donated to such a worthy cause,” said Alan Goldstein, President of Goldstein Auto Group.

about it. I’ve had lots of admirers already, so if I might be “the one” for you, better hurry!
Hi, I'm Able and I am The Man! I am still a young guy so I'm working hard on my

“It’s a sign of the times…”MECHANICVILLE – It’s not just a sign of the times … but the sign of the times for the Mechanicville Public Library, with your help. The Library Friends are collecting for an electronic sign to be placed in front of the library to keep everyone up-dated on library activities. Show your support and come to the library and make a donation of $1 or more, and sign a tag to be added to our sign wall. Make more than one donation and sign a tag for family members, aunt Grace who always read to you, your favorite teacher, memorials to friends and family no lon-ger with us, and don’t forget those loyal family pets that love to sit on your lap while you read! Please help us fill our wall and have the sign ready and up for the end of construction! (P)

I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to answer me in this necessity. There are none that can withstand your power. Oh, show me herein you are my mother. Oh, Mary con- ceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (3x). Holy Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Sweet Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Holy Spirit, you who solve all problems, light all roads so that I can attain my goal, you who gave me the divine gift to forgive and forget all evil against me and that in all instances in my life you are with me. I want in this short prayer to thank you for all things as you confirm once again that I never want to be separated from you in eternal glory. Thank you for your mercy towards me and mine. The person must say this prayer 3 consecutive days, after 3 days the request will be granted. This prayer must be published after the favor is granted. Thank you for favor received. LMC.

5K Fun Run/Walk for Brachial PlexusHALFMOON – The 3rd annual 5K Fun Run/Walk for Brachial Plexus will be held at the town of Halfmoon Park on Route 236, Halfmoon on October 13. Registration: 8am; 5K Fun Run/Walk Begins at 9am. The term Brachial Plexus Injury (BPI) refers to an injury to the complex set of nerves that control the muscles of the fingers, hand, arm and shoulder. The Brachial Plexus can be damaged in a number of different ways includ-ing accidents involving high impact conditions (automobiles, motorcycles, snowmobiles, sports). But most brachial plexus injuries are sustained during birth from excessive force being applied to the baby’s neck and head resulting in stretching and/or tearing of the Brachial Plexus nerves. Proper labor manage-ment would prevent a majority of these preventable obstetrical injuries. Please join is in raising awareness! For more informa-tion or to register, go to: www.ubpn.org Race day registration is also available. Please call Karan at 518-885-1616 or email: [email protected] All proceeds to benefit United Brachial Plexus Network, Inc. (A)
Backpacks of HopeCLIFTON PARK – Members of The Chamber of Southern Saratoga County’s Women In Business Committee are reaching out to the community for help with their charitable initiative, Backpacks of Hope, which supports mothers and their children utilizing the services of Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Services of Saratoga County (DVRC). The backpacks meet the needs of the children who are also affected by domestic violence. The Women in Busi-ness Committee seeks donations of back-to-school supplies such as backpacks, notebooks, pens, pencils, crayons, markers, glue sticks, etc. Donations of personal care items such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste and other toiletries are also welcomed year round. Anyone who wishes to participate in this worthy program can do so by bringing donations to The Chamber of Southern Saratoga County, located at 15 Park Avenue in Clif-ton Park (behind Shoppers World Plaza). Questions about the program should be directed to Liz Roggenbuck at 371-7748 x108. (A)

If you enjoy keeping up with current events in the capital region, then October is not going to dis-appoint!Recently, GLOBALFOUNDRIES announced that the plan-ning stage has begun for a new Technology Develop-ment Center to be built on the campus. While this is only a very preliminary step, it appears that the company continues to lay out its vision for the Malta property and is committed to making some very big things happen over the next several years. Within the coming weeks some of those microchips destined for IBM products will be finally making their way towards the facility in East Fishkill. On a much lower technological scale, work is commencing on the bridge at Historic Lock 19 that was the subject of the recent design competition involving Shenendehowa High School students, Turner Construction, GE, Momentive, and the Chamber of Southern Saratoga County. The structure is expected to be put in place in early November, and discussion is already underway in Chamber circles as to what we should do for an encore!
Wednesday, October 17 is going to be a big day at the Hilton Garden Inn in Clifton Park, with a seminar co-hosted by Success Magazine, Success PR and the Chamber of Southern Saratoga County at 4:30PM. Dr. Alain Kaloye-ros of Albany Nanotech will be the keynote speaker as a group of experts discuss how "the Future of Marketing on the Internet is Now". Admission is $45 for chamber mem-bers, $65 for the general public. Also on that day is the Women in Business Fall Luncheon featuring Anne Saile, starting at 11:30AM, $50 for members, $65 for the general public.
