THE JOYFUL NOISE, “WE ARE ONE” CAPITAL DISTRICT – The Joyful Noise was a contemporary Christian music ministry well known in the Capital District re-gion and beyond, during the years of 1969-1993. The Joyful Noise was a large group of young people, led spiritually and musically by Mr. Bill Womer. The Joyful Noise was the core of what would later evolve into “Christian Music Ministries”. The positive side of social media, as well as the unfortunate pass-ing of key members, has stirred interest in a reunion of The Joyful Noise, with the recognition, that still, “We are One”. A reunion is planned for October 10, 2015 focused on reunit-ing and catching up. The reunion will culminate with a bar-beque dinner and an evening Praise and Worship service at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Many of the songs spanning three decades when young lives were forever impacted by this experience will be sung together again. We will also be including all the parents and family members in the Satur-day night service who supported each of us during our “JN” years. During these early planning stages we are interested in help locating former members, and identifying folks to assist on various committees that have been formed. Please visit the Facebook page for Christian Music Ministries if you are a former member and want to connect, or contact us at [email protected]

SAFE SCHOOL CARPOOLINGStudents have a few diff er-ent options to get to and from school. In areas where school bus service is pro-vided, children have an easy way to get to class each day. But if no bus service is avail-able, students must be driv-en to school by their parents or neighbors.
Busy parents frequently ban together to form carpooling teams to ensure students get to school on time. Car-pooling is eco-friendly, con-venient and can foster stron-ger relationships between students and the parents of those students. Sharing rides also can be fun for kids and motivate them to get out the door so they can see their friends.
Safety should be a priority for carpoolers, and drivers
can take the following steps to ensure kids get to school safely.
• Know the laws regarding safety seats as they pertain to age, weight and height.
• Each child will need to ride in a seat that is appropriate and shortcuts should not be taken. If there isn’t room in the vehicle to sit all chil-dren comfortably and in the proper restraint, then you must reduce the number of passengers in your vehicle.
• Children should ride in the backseat of the vehicle as a priority. Many kids can be safely moved to the front seat around age 13.
• Instruct children to remain in their seats until the car has come to a complete stop. Only then should they
remove their seatbelts.
• Make sure students enter and exit the vehicle on the curb side instead of on the street side.
• Instruct passengers to keep their hands and heads inside of the vehicle. If necessary, engage child locks on doors and windows.
• Do not leave a child alone at an empty home in the af-ternoon. Wait until you see a child go inside his or her home before you drive away.
• Keep the radio low and minimize distractions while driving others.
Carpooling is a great way for parents to share the respon-sibility of getting kids to and from school.
DID YOU KNOW? The school buses many Americans are accustomed to seeing in their neighbor-hoods trace their origins to educator and author Dr. Frank Cyr, Ph.D. Dr. Cyr spe-cialized in rural education and, in 1939, organized a conference at Teachers Col-lege, Columbia University in New York City with the intention of standardizing
transportation for students on their way to and from school. Representatives from several notable corpo-rations, including engineers from auto manufacturers Chevrolet, Dodge and Ford and paint experts from DuPont, attended the con-ference. The fruits of that conference are still paying dividends even now, as one
of the more notable devel-opments to result from the conference was the deci-sion to paint buses yellow with black lettering to make them easier to see in the early morning and late after-noon. That decision contin-ues to protect the millions of school children who ride the bus to and from school today.

(MS) — Perhaps no aspect of life has gone untouched by technology in the 21st century. Technology has changed the way we com-municate, how we watch television and listen to mu-sic and even how we keep abreast of the latest hap-penings in our communities and abroad.
Technology is also chang-ing the way we drive and, in many ways, making to-day’s highways more safe. While automotive gadgets like built-in WiFi or backup cameras may be the first amenities to grab our at-tention, new developments in lighting technology are enhancing driver visibility and making it safer to hit the open road.
Many auto manufacturers still use standard incandes-cent bulbs in their vehicles. But advanced lighting that’s more befitting of today’s technological standards can make it easier for drivers to see and be seen by fellow motorists. Vision LED Lights from leading automotive lighting manufacturer Phil-ips employ cutting edge LED technology to deliver better and more dynamic lighting for applications such as brake and taillights, back up lights, side markers, fog lights, and license plate lights. Guaranteed for up to 12 years, Philips Vision LED Lights are highly resistant to extreme heat and vibration, meaning drivers are very likely to replace their vehicle long before they ever need to worry about replacing their LED lights.
The right lighting can vastly improve driver visibility and safety and prove a wise in-vestment for drivers who want to see the road better while making themselves more visible to other motor-ists. In addition to upgrad-ing their vehicles’ lighting, drivers can take the follow-ing steps to ensure they’re seeing the road ahead of
them as clearly as possible.
• Get vision checkups. A standard ophthalmic exam is a series of tests conducted to check an individual’s vi-sion and the health of his or her eyes. The National In-stitutes of Health note that the frequency of such tests depends on an individual’s age, but drivers should know that they should get screened more frequently as they age, and the NIH notes that drivers who wear con-tact lenses need yearly eye exams. Drivers who suspect their vision might be mak-ing it harder for them to see when behind the wheel should schedule an ophthal-mic exam immediately.
• Take steps to improve your reaction time and that of your fellow motorists. Per-sonal reaction time also can influence how drivers see the road and how quickly they react to potentially negative driving condi-tions. Making sure you get enough sleep and exercise can increase alertness and improve your reaction time. In addition, the choices you make when upgrading your vehicle can improve the re-action time of your fellow drivers. For example, Phil-ips Vision LEDs’ instant-on response make sure brake lights come on the mo-ment you apply the brake, instantly alerting other driv-ers should you be forced to make a sudden stop. That instant response time can reduce braking distance by up to 20 feet, even at speeds as high as 75 miles per hour.
• Prioritize complete vehicle maintenance. No vehicle maintenance routine is com-plete unless it includes regu-lar cleaning of headlight lenses, sideview mirrors and interior glass and mirrors. Dirty mirrors and glass com-promises driver vision, so be sure to periodically remove any debris or film buildup on such surfaces.
TECHNOLOGY CAN HELP EXTEND THE LIFE OF YOUR LIGHTS
