Smart Fields DefinedSmart fields are reusable objects that simplify using business functions in event rules. They are data dictionary items with attached business functions. The business functions include a named mapping that maps the source for each parameter of the business function data structure. Instead of needing to know which business function to use and what parameters to pass, the user merely selects a data item that inherently has this information. Smart fields can be used for deriving column headings or to populate a value in a report section using the Report Design tool. Smart fields enable you to include complex, reusable calculations in detail sections of a report. You can edit the event rules that are generated by smart fields using Event Rules Design. Smart fields are used in JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Report Design Aid (RDA) and are not currently available for use in any other EnterpriseOne tools.
Smart fields are organized in smart field templates. Each smart field template is associated with a particular business view. All smart fields in a template use the same business view columns for data selection. Because smart fields are grouped in smart field templates, you must attach a smart field template to a detail section before smart fields are available for the section layout.
If you attach a smart field template to a section and the section uses a different business view from the one that is required by the smart field, the system provides you with the opportunity to change the business view.

The Challenges
• Basic setup• Tabular section only• Automatic totaling• One drill-down per section• Business View column values• Column-specific links• No links in CSV
QuestDirect.org
Basic Setup – Data Structure
• Variables for NER• One return value
QuestDirect.org
Basic Setup – Named Mapping• Source for data
structure values• Literal, Prompt,
Table, DD, or System Value
• Return Value
QuestDirect.org
Basic Setup – NER
• Returns value to be printed• Output will be totaled• Can be simple or complex• Uses data structure with Named Mapping
QuestDirect.org
Basic Setup – Data Dictionary• Glossary Group ‘K’• Standard DD setup• Form -> Smart Field
QuestDirect.org
Basic Setup – Smart Field
• Links data dictionary to NER
QuestDirect.org
Basic Setup – S. F. TemplateE1 LifeCycle Tools -> Report Management -> Advanced Report Setup -> Smart Field Templates
QuestDirect.org
Basic Setup – Template Criteria
• Defined based on return value• Unclear on proper design
QuestDirect.org
Basic Setup – Report DirectorE1 LifeCycle Tools -> Report Management -> Advanced Report Setup -> Report Director Templates
QuestDirect.org
Basic Setup – Report Director• Must choose Tabular
Section• Select Business View• Define Level Break
columns
QuestDirect.org
Basic Setup – Report Director• Define drill-down
application
QuestDirect.org
Tabular Section Only
• Cannot use Columnar/Group• Automatic Row Description• “Spreadsheet Capability”• Fewer design options
– Level break header/footers– Conditional sections (*)– Subsection joins
• Automatic totaling
QuestDirect.org
Automatic Totaling
• Based on Level Breaks• Could not be suppressed• Created workfile• Inserted single line per “level break”• Smart field defined over workfile
QuestDirect.org
One Drill-Down• Needed two different drill-
down apps• Only one can be defined
per section• Created flag in drill-down
data structure• When flag set, passed
through to second application
QuestDirect.org
Business View Column Values• Wrong values being
passed to drill-down• Called from “Do Balance
Auditor” section• Stored values to pass in
“Do Section”• Manually pass drill-down
variables into Form Interconnect
QuestDirect.org
Column-Specific Links• Need to pass different
values depending on column
• Use SL CurrentColumn• Triggers different variable
values (Separation Reason)
• Triggers different drill-down application (pass through)
QuestDirect.org
No Links in CSV
• Processing option• Same workfile build• Conditional sections• Suppress PDF sections• Detail displayed after “level break” line• Left-aligned data
