TANGLES: A CUT ABOVE THE REST! SEPTEMBER 23, 2014

Winding down from the summer can bring about a whole new season of hair issues! Back to school keeps us busy and

sometimes in the Autumn months, we forget to take care of our hair. This article can help keep you on the right hair-care track

with quick and easy remedies for issues that are common from September right into the winter months!

Lacklustre Hair

1. Recondition your hair. Over the summer months

our hair tends to lose its shine. Redken’s

DIAMOND OIL LINE can help recondition the hair

as well as help with dry-damage or frizziness that

gets unmanageable

thanks to the summer

sun. For blondes, the

BLONDE IDOL BBB

spray will keep

blonde shiny and bright!

2. A gloss treatment will last. Sometimes our hair

needs a little more TLC and a retail product can’t

do enough for our bland locks. Ask your stylist

about a gloss treatment that can liven up your

hair! A gloss will add shine and help manage

frizziness for up to four weeks. It can bring out

the natural pigment in your hair and make your

natural colour richer without depositing and

changing your hair colour!

Hairfall

1. Shedding is normal. Autumn brings increased

shedding of the hair, also known as ‘seasonal

hairfall’. Your hair is on a growth cycle and as

autumn rolls around, a good number of your

hairs will be finishing that cycle causing more

noticeable hair loss than in other months.

Generally, we lose up to 100 – 150 hairs a day,

but in the autumn months you could be looking

at upwards of 150 – 160 hairs a day falling as

they are finishing their growth cycle and making

way for new hair to grow. Keep in mind, we

don’t always wash our hair every day and oil

from our scalp can cause our hair to stick,

meaning we might see even more hair fall! But,

you are likely not losing your hair, so don’t panic!

If you have any concerns be sure to talk to your

stylist!

Dry, flaky scalp

1. Hot sun means dry scalp. Warm summers can

bring on a lot of dry skin on our scalps. Those

with dark hair seem to suffer the most when

they see flakes. Redken’s SCALP RELIEF is a gentle

shampoo for the scalp. It helps to lift flakes from

the scalp leaving it moisturised and healthy.

2. A head massage is not just for the salon!

Massaging your head while you shampoo can

ensure that you scalp is getting the care in needs

in terms of removing dry skin and debris as well

as promoting blood flow to the roots of the hair

which help with hair growth and overall hair

health.

3. Two shampoos can help with flakes. Sometimes

shampooing your hair and scalp once only begins

to lift the flakes from your scalp. You may notice

flakes more in your hair unless you shampoo a

second time. The second shampoo ensures that

you are removing dry skin enough to have it

rinse out. If you still have a problem when you’re

out of the shower and your hair is dry be sure

you’re blow drying with cool air and you can go

over your hair with a fine-tooth comb to remove

any more flakes.

4. Hot water is a no-no! If you can avoid hot water

you’re going to save both your hair and your skin

through Autumn and into the Winter months.

Hot water (as well as hot air from the blowdryer)

can dry out your skin not only on your scalp, but

on your entire body. Try lowering the

temperature in the shower to save your skin

from drying out. Cool rinses on your hair also

help avoid frizziness.

Fly-aways

1. Hairspray doesn’t have

to be a hassle! To help

tame your fall fly-aways

you can apply a light

hold hair spray. A

gentle layer of it

ensures that your fly-

aways stay sitting down

and you avoid that smell as well as the crunchy

hairspray feel. Redken’s FASHION WORK spray

has a light hold with a pleasant aroma that won’t

leave your hair sticky or weighed down. For

more intense frizz control, try Redken’s WAX

BLAST in damp hair, before you blow dry. This

spray has more weight to it, but if you’re one

with thick hair, you may need more control.

Breakage

1. Breakage can be prevented with moisture

treatments! Thanks to the summer our hair can

end up brittle when we’re gearing up for back to

school. Be sure you’re adding more moisture to

your hair by liberally

conditioning the ends.

Redken’s SHOTS

treatments are perfect

for repairing the

integrity of hair.

EXTREME, ALL SOFT, and COLOUR EXTEND shots

can be tailored to your hair’s specific needs.

2. Avoid putting wet hair up. Our hair stretches

when wet and shrinks as it dries. If you put your

hair up in a tight pony or bun your hair can break

where your elastic is placed. If you must put your

hair up, put it up loosely. If you can avoid the use

of an elastic, do! Try a big clip instead.

3. Protective spray should be in your arsenal. Any

Redken product with a

pink label protects hair

from heat up to 450

degrees. Heat protection

is integral for keeping hair

healthy and strong.

Redken’s EXTREME ANTI-

SNAP spray is a leave-in

conditioner which can help protect the ends of

your hair against breakage all day. But

remember: only regular trims can stop split ends

in their tracks!

Brassy Blondes

1. Purple and blue tones reduce brassiness. Over

the summer blondes

can become a brassy

orange or yellow

colour. Purple or

blue shampoo

(they may be marketed as ‘blonding shampoo’) is

one of the easiest ways to tone or neutralize

brassy hair. Purple shampoos are heavily

pigmented and help to bring out the best of your

blonde! Redken’s BLONDE IDOL line is ideal for

blondes.

2. Your stylist can tone with a colour. To minimize

damage and avoid having your highlights done

too often you can come in between and ask if

your stylist can tone your blonde to reduce the

brassiness. The process is conditioning for the

hair and should help prolong your colour!

3. You should know about PREART! An intense

treatment that removes harsh build up from the

hair. PREART is something to consider when your

CLEANSING CREAM shampoo just isn’t doing the

trick. Sometimes hard water deposits, debris,

chlorine and product build up can coat that hair

so heavily that a professional treatment is

necessary. PREART will restore

your hair to its natural softness

and repair your hair’s integrity

and shine.

Follow some of these tips and tricks and your hair will remain gorgeous all throughout the fall! Remember, everyone’s hair is different: you and your stylist are the ones who know it best so consult your stylist if you’re having issues. They will help sort out any problems you’re having and keep your hair perfect throughout the fall and every other season.

Recently, Tangles Hair Designs decided to make a change within the salon. Formerly a Schwarzkopf salon, Tangles decided to change some of their regular product line over to Redken! Now sporting Redken styling products, Redken shampoos and conditioners, and the Redken’s men’s line, Tangles is excited to get these products off of the shelves and into your homes! Redken offers a number of innovative haircare solutions and creative styling products for both men and women. With Redken styling products you can feel comfortable in recreating the style your hairstylist creates for you while you’re in the salon! Maintain your style between cuts with the help of your stylist’s education and knowledge on the products they use specifically for you!

Tangles was also excited to take part in the ‘Ice Bucket Challenge’ to support and raise money for ALS Canada! We participated as a team on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at 8:00pm. Richard Reid of Reid Uptown Homes generously donated the use of his backhoe so we could fill it with water (a whopping 6 wheelbarrows full)! 20 bags of ice were donated from Arctic Ice and once the bucket was full we got drenched! It was an amazing time and Tangles would like to thank everyone who donated toward the cause and came out to support us while we did the challenge!
