The Murex is a kind of marine gastropod mollusks belonging to the family Murcidae. The choice of scanning with the latest 3D range based technology this small fossil was driven by curiosity to test the equipment on objects of small dimensions but with particularly articulated exterior surfaces. The three dimensional model was realized by the ENEA-UTIC 3D GraphLab Team exploiting a structured light scanner (Breuckmann SmartScan 3D HE 5 Mpixel).A structured-light 3D scanner is a device for measuring the three-dimensional shape of an object using projected light patterns and a camera system. It represents a fast and versatile technique for the acquisition of reliable and accurate measurements.The final 3D model consists of 200000 polygons. For visualization purposed it has been reduced to 100000 faces
