This fair is dedicated to Ruchille“Ro” Mead CCAH Executive Director 2004 - 2011

Ro Mead died in the fall of 2015 and not a day goes by that we don’tmiss her. Her warmth, her wit and her ability to laugh at herself weresome of her favorite traits, but she had many others that definedwho she was. Ro was not a bit player on the stage of life but a full-blown star. She inspired us daily. She made us laugh. She pissed usoff at times as well. Ultimately, she left a legacy that continuestoday. That legacy involves art education in our public schools, theR2 Gallery and First Fridays. Ro started out as an artist/vendor atMountain Fair and eventually ended up the �queen�. Her crown is now retired but not her memory. The love that threads throughCommUNITY is the love we will always have for this simply fabulous woman. We miss you Ro!

This year’s theme is one of the core values ofCarbondale. We may not all agree, but when itcounts we come together and work out ourdifferences. We support each other throughhard times. Carbondale Clay national Xi: the intimacy of ScaleAugust 5 - September 3, 2016

Carbondale Arts is partnering with the CarbondaleClay Center for its 11th annual Clay National exhibi-tion. “The Intimacy of Scale” features 32 cerami-cists from around the country who have createdworks either smaller than 8”x8”x8” or larger than24”x24”x24”. This show was juried by nationallyacclaimed ceramicist Chris Gustin.

Join us for an opening reception on First Friday,August 5 from 6 to 8 pm at the Carbondale Arts R2 Gallery in The Launchpad and at theCarbondale Clay Center.

Dance initiative's 5th annual Spectrum DanceFestivalSeptember 16-18, 2016The 5th annual Spectrum Dance Festival presentsperformances of original choreography by some ofColorado’s most exciting dance companies as wellas local dance artists and an outstanding series ofworkshops for the purpose of entertaining, educat-ing and developing awareness and appreciationfor the art of dance. The Festival includes the"Local Color" Performance on Sept. 16 at 7:30 pm atCarbondale Middle School, workshops on Sept. 17and 18 at various times at The Launchpad, andRennie Harris' Grass Roots Project performs onSept. 17 at 7:30 pm at Carbondale Middle School.

If you are commuting from up or down valley, the BRT and Local buses will drop you off at the Carbondale Park & Ride, then catch the Carbondale Circulator which will drop you off right at Sopris Park.

Carbondale Circulator operates from 5:02am to 8:41pm . When the Carbondale Circulator is not running outside of the normal operating hours local buses will continue into downtown Carbondale.

MT. SOPRIS RUNOFF (14+miles) & FOUR-MILE FAIR RUNThe 38th annual foot race from Basalt to theMountain Fair starts at the Emma Schoolhouse at7:15 a.m. on Saturday morn-ing, July 29, and finishes inthe Open Space at SoprisPark. Also being held againthis year is the four-mileFAIR RUN race that startson Prince Creek Road andruns downhill to the finishin the Open Space at SoprisPark. Come out and wel-come the runners home. Ashuttle will take runnersfrom Sopris Park to thestart of the four-mile raceon Prince Creek Road at7:15 a.m., and a shuttle willbe available after the 14-mile race to return runnersto their vehicles in Basalt.You can sign up for allraces on Active.com or atIndependence Run & Hike.The cost is $30. For more information, call 704-0909.Independence Run & Hike is sponsoring both races.

FLY-CASTING COMPETITONRun by the infamous Gill Finn, a Roaring Fork Valleyflyfishing legend, the competition takes place at 10a.m. on Saturday at the Open Space area of the park.Prizes donated by Alpine Angling. Registration at theInfo Booth.

HORSESHOE TOURNAMENTSThe Singles Tourney takes place at high noon onSaturday. The Doubles Tourney is on Sunday, also athigh noon. Both events take place at Glassier Park,two blocks south of Sopris Park on Weant Boulevard.Register at the Info Booth beginning Friday.

LIMBO CONTESTGet down with Dr. Limbo at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in theOpen Space area. Open to folks 18 and older. A youthLimbo Contest will be held at 2 pm in the Oasis.Prizes are donated by Alpine Angling and Dr. Limbo.

THE WOOD SPLITTING CHAMPIONSHIPNot to be missed! The Women’s competition takesplace at 4 p.m. on Saturday. The Men’s is held at 4

p.m. on Sunday; both are followedby a benefit firewood auction. Bothcompetitions are in the OpenSpace. Registration begins onFriday. All entrants must wearsafety shoes. Steel-toed protectorsare available at the competition.Winners receive a new wood-split-ting maul. Sponsored byAckerman Log & Timber.

THE PORCUPINE LOOP BIKE RACEIn its 12th year, this race is casualand sure to be a good time. AlohaMountain Cyclery andStomparillaz Creative CyclingCollective keep the fun factor highby requiring costumes and creat-ing obstacles. Race Day is Sunday,July 26, pre-registration is avail-able on Saturday all day and from

7-7:45 a.m. on Sunday at the Bike Valet at Sopris Park.Entry fee is $20 with all proceeds going toCarbondale Arts. There will be a riders meeting at theBike Valet (Euclid & 7th St.) at 7:45 a.m. and the racewill commence immediately following. The racebegins at the driveway of Joy Blong and Dick Hunteron Prince Creek Road, goes up the Porcupine LoopTrail and other Prince Creek Road single tracks andends in Sopris Park.

THE HULA HOOP CONTESTEmceed by Betty Hoops. Try your hand at over 50basic hoop techniques, hoop limbo, obstacle course,mini trampoline and more! This contest is open to allages. New this year, the contest takes place in theOasis at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday. Bring your hoop or buyone at the fair!
