A “FEW” WORDS FROM FR. ROBERT
Help Support a Great Cause at the Catholic Social Event of the Year
The Deimel Legacy Ball is just around the corner. It became obvious to me last year that it is kind of the Catholic social event of the year in
Columbus. I was so impressed with both the attendance and the program at the Deimel Ball last year. Everyone who attended had a great time.
I don’t believe that there could be a better cause for such a special event than Catholic education and our own St. Anne-Pacelli Catholic
School. Please consider joining us on February 1, 2020 at 6 p.m. at the Columbus Trade Center (updated location). You can purchase tickets
online at www.stannecsg.com/Deimel-Ball. If you don’t like to purchase things online or are not familiar with websites, you can call St. Anne-
Pacelli Director of Advancement Tiffany Shreve at 706-561-8232, ext. 322 and she will be happy to help you make your reservations. The
deadline to purchase reservations is January 22nd. Hope to see you all there!
Don’t Forget!
If you are going to the hospital for a test or procedure, or if you’ve been diagnosed with any kind of ailment, our Lord and His Church wants to
be particularly close to you with the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. Anytime you are ill or facing a health problem feel free to
approach any of the friars after Mass or in the Parish Oce. We will be happy to celebrate the Sacrament of the Sick with you.
Men’s and Women’s Retreats
This spring we are having retreats for men and women. Each retreat will be held at the Blessed Trinity Retreat Center right across the river in
Fort Mitchell, Alabama. Every once in a while we all need a break from our routine - time to get away, time to rest, time to think and time to
pray. Last year, the women’s retreat was so well received that we decided to duplicate the effort for the men in our parish. All the information
you need for either retreat can be found on our website - www.stannecsg.com/events. Please talk it over with your spouse and plan on
attending. You owe it to yourself and your family. This year, dads can take care of the family when moms go on retreat, and the moms can take
care of the family when dads go on retreat. Dads - make sure the house is clean when your wife comes home!
Help Us Spread the Word
Every Catholic is charged with the mission and the challenge of bringing others to Christ and His Church. January is usually the time that we
begin to register new students for our beautiful school. So many families in Columbus have bene#ted from the quality education that St. Anne
and Pacelli have provided in the past. Now our united St. Anne-Pacelli Catholic School is even stronger. This year we enjoyed our highest
enrollment in 27 years. Our school provides an excellent academic program rooted in faith. Please take the time to encourage anyone you
know to consider sending their children to our school. Not only will they get a great education, but they will also bene#t from a faith-based
environment steeped in tradition. Help us spread the word. It’s a Great Day to Be A Viking!
Around Your Campus
Ground Testing
Over Christmas Break bore samples were taken from the playground on Trinity Drive in the hope that it will be a suitable place for our new
Early Learning Center. Preliminary results seem to indicate that the site will indeed be a suitable location. We all know that the new center
will be essential to the long-term success of St. Anne-Pacelli Catholic School. It will provide us with a continuing source of little Vikings for
our Lower School. We can’t wait!
• Emergency Exit Signs
A representative from the Columbus Fire Department recently visited our campus to help us with our emergency planning efforts. When he
pressed one of the emergency exit lights it failed to work. Travis Harris, our new Facilities Management Director, spent the next few days
testing every emergency light to make sure that they work. He is also in the process of securing all exterior doors in our church building to
enhance security. In a campus as large as ours, with so many buildings, routine maintenance issues always crop up. We are so blessed to
have Travis working for us!
•Science Lab Floor
Over Christmas Break, the (oor in our new High School Science Lab was replaced. It had been improperly installed and we refused to
accept shoddy workmanship. Rest assured that every penny spent here is spent well.
•Kiln in Lower School Art Room
We are happy to announce that a protective room and kiln for Ceramics were installed in the Lower School Art Room. This will open a whole
new “art adventure” to explore for our students and their families. The protective room and new ventilation was necessary to keep our little
ones away from the kiln which can get extremely hot when in use.
•Gym Divider
The curtain divider in The Land, our school’s gym, is broken. The pulley system inside the motor seems to have disintegrated. The closest
company authorized to service it is in Tampa, Florida. We’re working on it. Right now the whole thing is being held by zip ties. Needless to
say, no one should attempt to raise or lower the divider until further notice.

to do so!
GOSPEL MEDITATION
ENCOURAGE DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF SCRIPTURE
The Catechism of the Catholic Church gives four reasons for the Incarnation, why God became man
in Jesus Christ. The third reason is “to be our model of holiness.” All of Jesus’ words and actions
model for us what we ought to do. He also shows us how we’re meant to be. Jesus’ baptism ought to
remind us of our own baptism and of the importance of baptism in the Christian life.
The Baptism of the Lord reminds us of our Trinitarian identity. When we are baptized, we stand in
solidarity with Christ, bathed in the waters He sanctied. There, the Father proclaims our adoption
into the family of God. “‘This is my beloved son [this is my beloved daughter], with whom I am well
pleased.’” And the Spirit, too, descends. We are lled with the Spirit’s grace and power to continue
Christ’s mission on earth. We received these gifts in the sacrament, and they continue to dwell
within us through sanctifying grace. We can — and should — invite God to stir up these graces of
our baptism and consider them in our own lives.
Does Christ feel like a distant relative two thousand years in the past? Or do you see Him as
someone who can be encountered here and now? Ask yourself where you nd your sense of dignity
and worth. Do you still search for it in success, social status, and selsh pursuits? Or are you able to
rest in being a beloved child of God? Remember, baptism gives us a call and a charge to change the
world. Do you pray for the Holy Spirit to guide you? Or are you so focused on your own life that you
miss the mission? This week, let’s do as Jesus did. Let’s live in our baptism!
