Ryan Fredrickson likes to recycle. When he finds a late model wrecked semi with low miles and little frame damage, he works his magic on it, putting
the vehicle back in service again as a logging truck, chip hauler or dump truck. Some of his “recycled wrecks” turn out so well that they have been featured on the covers of professional trucking magazines. No wonder he calls his business Practically Perfect Trucks.
“I’ve had guys come up to me and say what a nice truck I have, but that they can’t afford a new one like that right now. Then they find out that it’s five years old and rebuilt,” says Ryan, who has refurbished 48 trucks since he began the business in 1999.
A 1988 graduate of Deary High School, Ryan earned his first paychecks behind the wheel of a logging truck, following in the footsteps of his dad, Larry. An accident, however, changed his direction.
“I wrecked my dad’s truck. Totaled it, and I had to fix it,” Ryan recounts. That got him into refurbishing, and eventually he was taking on a wrecked truck every spring to occupy his layoff time.
“I started out painting Tonka trucks as a kid,” says Ryan, who earned an auto body degree from Lewis Clark State College. “I refurbished those and worked on match-box cars, too.”
Depending on insurance adjusters, wrecking yards and personal leads, Ryan keeps a steady supply of trucks com-ing his way. He focuses on Peterbilt and Kenworth brands, doing body and paint work, frequently revamping long-haul highway trucks into vocational trucks for logging and agriculture.
He often reconfigures a sleeper cab into a day cab, and also rescues the wiring harness from the wrecked cab. Because wiring systems are unique to each truck, he trans-fers the wiring harness to the new donor cab.
“With used trucks, you don’t know what works when you get them,” Ryan explains. “When they leave here, everything works. We spend lots of time getting things right. That’s why we don’t advertise, but have lots of repeat customers.”
Ryan has supplied trucks to buyers from as far away as Portland, Seattle and the Oregon coast. He and assistant Aaron Pointon work in a fully outfitted shop just a stone’s throw from Ryan’s hilltop home. That enables Ryan to join in family and community activities with his wife Teri, and daughters Savannah and Olivia.

This fall, PNGC Power will be conducting a survey of residential, commercial and irrigation electric cooperative customers. PNGC Power is owned by Clearwater Power in part-nership with 14 other Northwest-based electric cooperatives and manages our wholesale power requirements.
Approximately 1,000 Clearwater Power members will be randomly selected to participate in the survey. If you are selected, you will receive a survey postcard in the mail. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey and return it to the address on the postcard. All customer information
will be held in the highest confidence and no specific individual customer responses will be published in any reports or provided to third parties.
The goal of the survey is to reveal energy use patterns, building charac-teristics and other information that is critical to evaluating the future power needs of our electric system. This sur-vey will help us to control our whole-sale power costs.

The 2006 Fill the Boot fundraiser was tremendously successful, rais-ing approximately $18,760 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). This far exceeded the set goal of $17,000.
Clearwater Power co-sponsored, along with KOZE radio, the annual Fill the Boot campaign organized by fi refi ghters from the Lewis-Clark val-ley. This year, in addition to collecting donations in fi reman boots on promi-nent streets, the fi remen also had a car wash and held a concert.
Clearwater Power co-sponsored the tee-shirts worn at the fundraiser and the banners spanning the streets an-nouncing the event.
Clearwater Power would like to ex-tend a warm-hearted thank you to ev-eryone who volunteered and donated to this worthwhile cause.

1. Set back your thermostat at least 10 degrees before going to sleep and when you are away from home.
2. You may want to consider in-stalling an automatic setback thermo-stat that adjusts room temperature ac-cording to your daily schedule.
3. Close your fi replace damper and seal the opening shut when not in use.
4. During the heating season, open south-facing window coverings during the day. Close all window coverings at night to keep the heat in.

Q: I am building a new house and want to control the heat in each room separately. What do you recommend?
A: This could be accomplished many different ways. Because of their low initial cost and stable fuel price, I recommend electric wall
