Project: Lant and Trundle Houses
Partners and Stakeholders : LB Southwark, Trees forCities, Residents of Lant and Trundle, Charles Dickens School
Project Aims: Provision of tree planting and landscapingimprovements to the areas around Lant and Trundle Houses
Project Achievements:The landscaping improvements around Lant and Trundle House were officially completed in early February 2008. The works involved the provision of trees for shade and shelter, shrubs and groundcovers for general amenity. Trees for Cities a local charity based organisation provided part funding in conjunction with CGS grants to fund and manage the scheme. They engaged with the local community, gathered resident support, and feedback on what was needed. They then engaged with the local children from Charles Dickens School and residents for planting works.

Project: Tabard Street / St George The Martyr Church – Concept Design
Partners and Stakeholders : St George the Martyr Church, Local Residents, LB Southwark, Mouchel Parkman, Living Streets, Borough and BanksideCommunity Council, TfL, Southwark Cross River Team,
Project Aims: Exploration of pedestrian space for the area between the St George The Martyr Church and the Church yard.
Project Achievements: Following the receipt of funding in 2006-07 for £50,000 and in 07-08 from Cleaner, Greener, Safer and the addition of section 106 funding. Southwark Council’s CGS team in cojunction with MouchelParkman began the process of exploring design options for Tabard Street. Thus far 3 design of options are being explored, that attempt to tackle the challenging notion of shared space between pedestrians and vehicles. These concepts are due for presentation in mid March for comment. Once a design option has been agreed, Southwarks Cleaner Greener Safer Team will be looking to develop the detailed drawings for implementation in the 08-09 financial year.

Cleaner, Greener, SaferAlbert Triangle
Project: The Albert Triangle – Yorkstone reinstatement
Partners and Stakeholders : Residents of Colnbrook St. and Gladstone St. LB Southwark, St George’s Circus Group.
Project Aims: To improve the safety and visual integrity of the paving to The Albert Triangle conservation area. To reinstate the quality of the paving back to York stone.
Project Achievements: The Albert Triangle was subject to pavement works in 2006 to reinstate the original York stone to the conservation zone. Prior to this areas of footpath were subject to cracking, and lifting. This was in turn causing leaks into the underground cellars which flank the streets. CGS has improved this by reinstating new paving and repairing the leaking into the cellars. In the recent 2007-08 round of CGS The Albert Triangle was selected for further funds to help complete more of the works to Gladstone St. LBS CGS team are currently working with residents to help deliver the remaining works within the financial year.

Project: Thames Cycle way
Partners and Stakeholders : Bankside Residents Forum, LBS cycle officer, Street Action Team
Project Aims: To improve the safety of the riverwalk area for pedestrians, by creating a designated cycleway and a series of signs.
Project Achievements: The Thames cycleway has been in place now since May 2007 in what is a heavily used area for cyclists. It currently links the Blackfriars Bridge with the Clink Street tunnel, thus helping cyclists bypass a heavily pedestrianised area of the river, whilst also improving safety for both pedestrians and cyclists.
