Clean Air Award Guidelines

P The purpose of the Clean Air Award is to recognize leadership and excellence in air filtration by selected air filter users and to promote the National Air Filtration Association and its member companies.

A Clean Air Awards will be presented to the recipient at the NAFA Annual convention. NAFA will assist award recipients in preparing press releases for local newspapers and will send a national press release to industry trade journals.

E Any facility or company that has demonstrated a concerted effort to provide a clean indoor environment by using proper air filtration products is eligible to be nominated. Nominations will be reviewed by the NAFA Clean Air Award Review Committee for final approval. The committee reserves the right to approve/deny any application based on the criteria set forth in this document.

C All nomination forms submitted will become property of NAFA and not shared or released to any entity without express permission of the submitting company. Information contained in the nomination forms will be used by NAFA for press releases to promote the Clean Air Award Program. E R :

C Award recipients are chosen through a multi-step review and judging process. NAFA Staff conducts an initial administrative review of all applications to ensure adherence to the entry requirements. Complete entries are then reviewed by the Clean Air Award Committee and judged.

P S 2020 C A A N . In order to be considered for the 2020 Clean Air Award, each nominee must earn a minimum of 52 points using the criteria set forth in this document. In addition to achieving the minimum point requirement, nominations will be judged on their due diligence in providing a clean and healthy environment, use of best practice filtration technology, and the results/benefits must be clearly stated. Filters must be installed in nominated facilities in order to qualify or apply for the Clean Air Award.

P Award recipients in attendance will be recognized by the National Air Filtration Association at a special award ceremony held in Clearwater, Florida at the Annual Convention, November 3 – 5, 2020. Awards are honorary and do not include monetary recognition.

CEU’ NAFA Certified Personnel will receive two CEU’s towards their recertification should their nomination be accepted.

In the middle part of 2018, Shawn Dibrell, and other members of the Joe Fly Co., met with members

of Vitesco Technologies (formerly known as Continental Automotive) to assist with their indoor air

quality needs. After surveying their equipment, it was determined that units were missing filters,

had caved in filters, had mis-matched MERV rating filters installed, and all coils were extremely dirty

and in need of cleaning. It should be noted that prior to our meeting and to us beginning service,

Vitesco was serviced by another vendor and relied on data and guidance provided by them. Once

we did a complete site survey, we proposed coil cleaning, upgrading from MERV 8 pleated filters to

custom built frames with MERV 11 media, we also replaced their MERV 14 V-Cell high efficiency

filters. This building is single story manufacturing facility that primarily manufactures electronic

components for vehicles and is approximately 500,000 square feet and has approximately 34 roof-

top air handlers.

After meeting with, Jaclyn Kiehl – Facilities Engineer, she provided a Purchase Order to clean all the

coils and to upgrade to all custom-built frames using MERV 11 Media and install 12” MERV 14 V-cells

final filters in all units. When installing the V-cells, the customer was upgraded to a better filter with

a lower pressure drop thus gaining additional energy savings. The cost savings by switching to

frames and media alone was approximately $9,000 a year and does not include the additional

savings from having clean coils. Additionally, while installing the final filters, new gaskets where

installed on all J Frames as needed. Currently, we are servicing Vitesco every two weeks and have

maintained a great working relationship with Jaclyn and her crew and frequently discuss ways to

improve air quality. Within the last week, we delivered over 200 MERV 14 V-cells Vitesco to be

installed by them. Normally this would be something that the Joe Fly Co. would provide, but giving

industry wide cut-backs due to COVID 19, budget restraints were placed into effect. By the Joe Fly

Co. ordering and delivering filters to the facility, she was able to stay within budget while still

obtaining the filters she needs to provide clean air to her facility.

After working with Jaclyn for two years now, it is apparent that Jaclyn takes great pride in her facility

and keeping a clean, healthy environment for her employees is one of her top priorities. It should be

noted that in addition to assisting Jaclyn with her air filtration needs, we also provide yearly cooling

tower cleanings and assist with other pressure washing needs at the facility.

Please also refer to the attached photographs detailing some of the work completed. Also attached,

are detailed breakdowns of the two rotations we do out there every two weeks. These rotations

contain product information, quantity, and location at the facility.
