Who we are and how we work

• Deliver qualifications from level 2 to level 7 (at L7, we work with the University of Law).

• Inspected by Ofsted.• Our ethos – successful partnerships, value, the “Damar difference”.

Delivery

• Enhanced distance learning = a blend of:

– Tutorials delivered live each fortnight (you can also watch the recordings).– Online support from the tutor via online forum.– Comprehensive course manual.– Pre-reading and additional materials prior to each tutorial.– Informal knowledge test each fortnight so you know you are on track.– Formal assessments and (at L6 and L4 accounts) exams.

We want you to succeed – our approach is based on 35 years’ experience of delivering vocational qualifications.

Your tutors

All Damar tutors are lawyers with strong vocational experience. Our conveyancing tutors for the initial courses are:

Anne HartleyA qualified property lawyer with many years experience in practice. She has tutored across all the CLC units as well as delivering training in property law and conveyancing to students with a number of universities and colleges including the Open University and the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives.

Andrew MyersonA solicitor with 30 years’ experience in private practice across the full range of CLC activities. He has been delivering CLC and related training since 2003, including running revision courses, assessing student work and setting, marking and moderating exams. Andrew has also been involved in writing the course manuals for the CLC/SQA units.

Cost and payment methods.

• All units are £150 per month, including VAT. Depending on the unit, total cost is therefore £600, £900 or £1,200.

• All inclusive, no hidden extras.• Spread the cost – some employers may allow you to pay via salary sacrifice

(saves tax and NI – can cut the cost by up to 50%).• Free first retakes. Resubmission of assignments/exam resit.• Why so much more than “old” CLC courses?...

– Higher registration fees with SQA.– “All-in” cost, nothing extra for exams, materials, revision.– Enriched distance learning model – much more than a manual, registration

and exam. We want you to succeed!

Standalone diploma or apprenticeship?

• The CLC/SQA diplomas also form part of the content for the Conveyancing Technician and Licensed Conveyancer apprenticeships – a broader study programme designed for those in work.– Apprentices and their employers also receive additional support in the form of

regular 1:1 tutorials from a Damar tutor.– People of all ages and existing as well as new staff can become apprentices.

However:• Apprentices need to be employed, for 30+ hours a week, in a conveyancing

environment.• Graduates currently ineligible (this will change after 1st May).• Employer support is required as training visits and study take place during

working hours.– The apprentice’s main place of work must be in England.– Whilst there is no cost for eligible apprentices an employer contribution is generally

required. However, Government subsidies mean the net cost is generally less than the cost of the standalone Diplomas.
