Although the Tile has an Arab origin, since its introduction into Portugal in the XV century, it has become part of the Portuguese Culture, becoming one of the most valuable artistic expressions. Hence, techniques have been improve along the years to create unique and 100% authentic Portuguese Ceramic Tiles.

The Tiles are mainly used for interior and/or exterior coatings, but they can also be used as decorative panels, becoming a poetic intervention in the Architectural creation of some Portuguese cities.The Traditional Tiles used to hold themes ranging from historical episodes, mythological scenes and religious iconography.

The Tile is a ceramic that starts with as raw clay or argil that is put through a Traditional handmade process becoming an impermeable, durable and shiny surface.

Apesar do azulejo ter origem árabe, desde a sua introdução em Portugal no século XV, que faz parte da cultura Portuguêsa, tornando-se uma das suas expressões artísticas mais valiosas. Ao longo dos anos, têm sido melhoradas técnicas para criar azulejos portugueses únicos e 100% autênticos.

Os azulejos são usados principalmente para revestimentos interiores e exteriores, mas também em painéis decorativos, tornando-se uma intervenção poética na criação da arquitetura de muitas cidades portuguesas.Os azulejos tradicionais são usados para representar episódios históricos, cenas mitológicas ou iconografia religiosa.

O azulejo é uma peça de cerâmica que nasce do barro cru ou argila, e que, através de um processo artesanal se transforma numa superfície impermeável, durável e brilhante.

Why choose tiles?

Conceptualization draw

Model Creation in Cast – Modeling step by step the clay into shape, textures and reliefs of the piece.

Molding of the clay – The clay is pressed by the mold and comes out with the desired shape.

Finishing - As the clay comes out of the mold, as result of the union between a mold male/female, the final details are applied with a precise knife to exclude the excess.

Drying – Once the pieces are finished, they are exposed to the sun for a natural air dry. This is crucial because the pieces cannot go into the oven with moisture inside them, otherwise they will break.

Baking – Once naturaly dried, the clay pieces are placed into a drying room. Once completely dried, they bake in the oven at 1050º.

Glazing – Once baked, the tiles are then glazed.

Baking the Glaze – As soon as the tiles are glazed, they need to go into the oven again, this time between 980º and 1000º, making them impermeable and very shiny.

Packaging – When finished the last baking, each tile is carefully cleaned and packed especially for you.

Criação do molde - Modelagem passo a passo no barro: a forma, texturas e relevos da peça.

Moldagem do barro - O barro é pressionado pelo molde e sai com a forma desejada

Acabamento - São retirados cuidadosamente e com precisão os excessos de barro, resultantes da união entre um molde masculino / feminino.

Secagem - Uma vez prontas, as peças são expostas ao sol para uma secagem natural. Este passo é crucial para que não se quebrem quando forem para o forno.

Cozedura - Quando secas, as peças de barro são colocadas numa sala de secagem. Uma vez completamente secas, são cozidas no forno a 1050º.

Vidragem - Depois de cozidos, os azulejos sofrem um processo de vidragem.

Cozedura do vidrado - Depois de vidrados, os azulejos vão novamente para o forno, desta vez entre 980º e 1000º, tornando-os impermeáveis e brilhantes.

Embalagem - Assim que cada peça esteja finalmente cozida, é cuidadosamente limpa e embalada, especialmente para si.

Instalation

Applying the tiles-The tiles can be placed in three types of surface: masonry walls; plasterboard or wood supports and derivatives.- Apply the cement glue and extend it over the surface with a coarse comb and a trowel (if the tile has some concavity on its back you can fill it with the mass);- Press hand the tile against the wall;- Repeat this process on each tile, ap-plying always in horizontal rows, leaving between them a margin of 1 mm indoors, or 2 mm in exterior spaces;- Before it dries, wipe off excess glue with a damp cloth.

Joint filler- 24 hours after application, to avoid infiltrations, fill with cement the space between the tiles without extending above the tile.- Wipe excess cement immediately with a damp cloth.

Maintenance- Clean with mild soap (household soap, black soap, green soap, soap lizard, etc.) and water.- Never use strong acids or alkalis.- stains can be removed by rubbing with a sponge abrasive type and/or solvent.

Aplicar os azulejos- Os ajulezos podem ser colocados em três tipos de superfície: parede de alvenaria; parede de pladur ou suportes de madeira e derivados.- Aplicar a massa/ cimento cola e extender sobre a superfície com um pente grosso e talocha (caso o azulejo tenha alguma côncavidade no verso pode-se preencher a reentrância com a massa);- Pressionar com as mãos o azulejo contra a parede;- Repetir este processo em cada azulejo, aplicando sempre em fileiras horizontais, deixando entre eles uma margem de 1 mm em espaços interiores, ou 2 mm em espaços exteriores;- Antes de seca, limpar o excesso de cola com um pano húmido.

Preencher as juntas- 24 horas após a aplicação, preencher as juntas com betume para evitar infiltrações- Limpe o excesso imediatamente com um pano húmido.

Manutenção- Limpar com sabão neutro (sabão doméstico, sabão preto, sabão verde, lagarto sabão, etc.) e água.- Nunca utilize ácidos fortes ou alcalinos.- As manchas mais difíceis podem ser removidas esfregando com uma esponja do tipo abrasivo e/ou solvente.
