MANAGEMENT AND DISCIPLINE
FAMILY INVOLVEMENTClick icon to add picture
“Making the effort to
communicate with
your students’
families sends a
powerful message
that you want to
include them in what
happens at school”
(Sprick, 2013, p. 20).
BEGINNING OF THE YEAR
At the beginning of the year, I will have students
and the students’ families sign the syllabus.
This ensures that everyone is aware of the
assignments that are due and any additional
information I feel is pertinent.
WEBSITE FOR GLOUCESTER COUNTY PUBL IC SCHOOLS
GCPS Website Link
There is important information that is found on this
link including:• Annual Calendars• Division-Wide Even Calendar• Code of Conduct• Fees• Parent Portal—students’ families are able to view
students’ grades and it is a form of communication for teachers and students’ families.
THROUGHOUT THE YEAR
Family involvement is implemented from the
beginning of the year and it will continue throughout.
I will make phone calls home to students’ families
frequently and early on, which will help build a
trusting relationship with them. When it comes to my
students welfare, I will be available at all times.
HOW WILL I INVOLVE STUDENTS’
FAMILIES IN MY CLASSROOM…
1. I will make sure that students’
families feel welcome in my
classroom from the very
beginning.
2. Students and their families will
be required to know what
assignments are due and when
they are due.
3. I will be in constant contact with
my students’ families regarding
good and bad behavior.
FORMS OF COMMUNICATION
I will provide my students and their families my
contact information. I will give them my email
address, cell phone number, and my school
website address for posted assignments online.
“If families feel that you are making an effort to
keep them informed, they are more likely to work
with you should their student have a behavioral or
academic problem (Sprick, 2013, p. 24).
Literally
Culturally
Economically
“Be aware of differences. Be
respectful of the differences.
Then teach your students how
to behave successfully in your
classroom, and you will
demonstrate cultural
competence” (Sprick, 2013, p.
371).
INVOLVING DIVERSE BACKGROUNDS
Know Your Students… Diversity…
ULTIMATELY…
I will ensure that I involve students’ families in my
classroom.
I will be on the lookout for diversity amongst my
students and be considerate of their differences.
If I accomplish the above, my students will succeed;
otherwise, they will surely fail.
