education and if you tell me that curiosity killed the cat,

I say only the cat died nobly.”

The Habitudes

• Imagination• Curiosity• Perseverance• Self-Awareness• Courage• Adaptability

Page 11: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination

IMAGINATION

There’s only 3 pure colors in the world

Page 12: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination

But add IMAGINATION to the mix…

Page 13: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination

IMAGINATION

There are only 7 musical notes

A B C D E F and G

Page 14: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination

But add IMAGINATION to the mix…

Page 15: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination

IMAGINATION is the ability our mind’s eye has to transform present facts into future

possibilities.

Page 16: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination

IMAGINATION and Knowledge

• How would you define each of these words?

•What’s the relationship between the two?

Page 17: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination

“Imagination is more important than knowledge.” ~Albert Einstein

• Why do you think he felt that way?• Do you agree or disagree?

Page 18: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination

IMAGINATION is so important, it has been called “the most essential tool for human intelligence.”

With it, we can create new realities!

Page 19: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination

“Everything new – every invention, every idea, every

improvement in our life comes from our imagination –

not from our knowledge.”

Agree or disagree?

Page 20: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination
Page 21: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination
Page 22: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination

Points to Ponder:

• How can having a good imagination influence your learning?

• How do you use your imagination now?

Page 23: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination

IMAGINATION

• Creativity• Problem Solving• Imaginative Reading• Visualization

Page 24: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination

IMAGINATION: Creativity

• Galileo made his first important scientific observation at age 17.

• Concert singer, Marian Anderson began her singing career at age 6, teaching herself how to play piano at age 8.

• Handel composed music when he was 11 years old.

Page 25: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination

“Hold on…who’s Handel?”

“Handel is the greatest composer who ever lived. I would bare my head and kneel at his grave.”

~Beethoven (1824)

Page 26: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination

“And the point is…?”

• Incredible discoveries and achievements have been made by people in their early years and teens.

• You are SO ready right now to create new and brilliant ideas.

• So…what are we waiting for?

Page 27: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination

IMAGINATION: Creativity

• …involves your ability to take your thoughts and ideas and turn them into something you want.

• Like muscles in your body, your creative ability needs to “work out” in order to develop and grow stronger.

Page 28: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination

So let’s get to “work”…

No…make that “play”

IT’S GAME TIME!

The name of the game is “How Come?”

Page 29: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination

“How Come…”

• I arrived at school in the middle of the day, in the middle of the week, but I didn’t see any kids there. How come?

Come up with as many creative scenarios as your imagination will allow. Push yourself beyond the obvious.

Page 30: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination

IMAGINATION: Problem Solving

You have what you need to solve almost any problem:

• Your brain

• Your power of imagination

Page 31: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination

Successful problem solving takes more than gathering information.

It requires looking at the problem from all angles.

Page 32: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination

Instead of a “Quick Fix” try…Mind Mapping (aka Concept

Mapping)

Page 33: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination
Page 34: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination

Your Turn:

• Take a few moments and

come up with a problem

• Create a Mind-Map laying

out your options

Page 35: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination

IMAGINATION: Imaginative Reading

• Reading is one of the strongest

ways to develop your imagination.

• Great readers envision the world

of story in their minds.

Page 36: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination

• Imaginative readers are able to literally step inside the story.

Page 37: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination

Your Turn:

• With a partner, share an interesting

scene from a book you’re reading

• After reading it together, set the

book aside and assume the role of one of the characters

• Act out the scene, exploring what

each character might say, do, feel, believe…

Page 38: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination

IMAGINATION: Visualization

“I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.”

~Michelangelo

Page 39: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination

Imagination involves all five senses…

One can imagine an image, sound, taste, smell, a physical sensation, feeling, or emotion.

For each of us, some senses are easier to visualize than others.

Page 40: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination

Game Time!

“Imagine the Music”

First step, simply relax and listen to this…

Page 41: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination
Page 42: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination

If you were to sculpt the song, what materials would you use?

Page 43: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination

How does the song smell?

Page 44: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination

What shape would it make?

Page 45: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination

If you could take a bite of this song, what would it taste like?

Page 46: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination

What color is the song?

Page 47: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination

If you were to sculpt this song, what materials would you use?How does the song smell?

What shape would it make?If you could take a bite of this song, what would it taste like? What color is the song?

Same questions…

Page 48: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination

Last one…

Page 49: Classroom Habitudes - Imagination

If you were to sculpt this song, what materials would you use?How does the song smell?

What shape would it make?If you could take a bite of this song, what would it taste like? What color is the song?
