    Overall statistical analysis

Generally, there have been less year-to-year school related violent deaths as time

has progressed. Since the 1997-1998 school year, there was a gradual decreasein this year-to-year death count. However, deaths spiked in 2003-2004 for anunexplained reason, trending downward once again until 2005-2006. The deathcount in 2006-2007 is misleading, as 33 died in the Virginia Tech Massacre in Aprilof that year.
