For the first time in school history,LaGrange College finished the year withtwo athletic teams earning NCAA bids forpostseason play. The golf team traveled toIndiana to compete in the NCAA DivisionIII Men’s Golf Championship, while thewomen’s softball team headed to NorthCarolina to play in the NCAA Division IIIAtlantic Regional.

With a tournament team consisting offour sophomores and a freshman, the

LaGrange golfers were young, but stillmanaged to hold their own against thebest teams in the country. They made thesecond round cut and finished the tourna-ment, held at Hawthorns Golf andCountry Club in Fisher and Prairie ViewGolf Club in Carmel, in 21st place.

The softball team, which earned itsNCAA bid by winning the GSACChampionship Tournament, made it tothe regional held in Fayetteville as a No. 8

seed. The Panthers nearly upset No. 1 seedMethodist in the first game, but lost aheartbreaker 1-0. The women were elimi-nated in the next game, losing 2-0 to No.4 seed Salisbury.

This year represented only the secondtime any Panther teams had gone on toNCAA postseason play. The golf teamearned a tournament bid in 2004, a yearafter the school was granted full admission into NCAA Division III.
