August is Rotary Membership & Extension Month
Think About it!Our organizational priority is, and must be, membership… without members, there would be no Rotary. If we can achieve so much with the clubs and members we currently have, what could we do if we had more?” – John Hewko, General Secretary of Rotary International
Who have you invited to Rotary lately? If you believe in Rotary and what we have accomplished, don’t you want to share that with your friends, neighbors and business acquaintances? It’s the fellowship of Rotary that binds us together to get things done. Make Rotary fun and include others of like mind. That old cliché still applies “You get more done when you are having fun.”Have fun in Rotary!

The Week in Review – ~The question “Our Valley – What’s Next?” was partially an-swered today when Shilo Sauer and Steve Maher explained what this meant. She first defined our Valley as basically Chelan and Douglas Counties and the communities within that boundary. Their goal is to “Make things happen rath-er than Let things happen”. A committee of community leaders consisting of 11 people was organized back in 2014-15 to study this area and try to determine what we really wanted in our valley. Through community outreach they approached different groups to determine what was valued by those groups and what they really wanted. They tried to determine the reasons that each group had for what they wanted done. From this analysis they narrowed the number of action items down to a total of 156 and then to 28 and finally to 11 major action items. They then identified 76 organizations that might take a lead position on these projects. They are currently trying to refine these items down to a manageable number to come up with an action plan for the valley by November of this year. So, stay tuned for further updates.
We have set a goal of saving 15,000 lives through our Club 60 donations this year. That is approximately $3,000 that needs to be raised. Remember the Bill Gates Foundation is still matching our donations 2 for 1. All it takes is 60¢ a week, not even a half a cup of coffee, and you will save someone from the dibilitating effects of polio and perhaps their live. Bring your loose change each week or if you don’t have any change bring dollars and place them in the cups on each table.

Bob Scea passed away this past week on Sat-urday, August 6th. With Bob’s passing, Ro-tary lost a great friend and benefactor. Bob had been a member of our club for 53 years. He joined at the age of 27, in 1963, and was very active until just a few years ago when he
no longer was physically able to attend our functions. He was a great believer in the RI Foundation and was an Arch Klumph Society member (Donating over $250,000 to the Foundation). He was an inspiration to many of us and we will miss his optimism and generous spirit. Our heartfelt condolences and prayers go out to Bob’s family.
