Cervical polyp pathway Classical cervical polyps

Pathway for management of cervical polyps in primary care • If <2cm long and <1cm wide – safe for removal • Take smear first if indicated.

• If patient symptomatic then fully investigate i.e. Full pelvic exam/swabs/TV Scan. Do not presume caused by polyp

• Grasp polyp with sponge forceps and twist off

• Send for histology

• Inform patient of how results will be communicated

• Advise patient of light bleeding for approx 24 hrs
