Dedications & Acknowledgements I dedicate this book to my late father, Judge Louis Esselen, who loved and played golf for most of his life. He introduced me to golf at the age of 5 and I am so glad he did. Little did he know that I would one day make a career out of golf and write a book! Bless him for encouraging and imparting his golfing wisdom to me. I am most grateful. Thanks to my wife, Doreen, for her patience and understanding, and for allowing me the time to painstakingly write and publish this book. I especially want to thank her for taking most of the photos, and although she is a novice, she did a great job!

How To Use This Book Thank you for purchasing “ Classic Golf Swing Lessons” –Improve Golfing Techniques Instantly With Proven Golf Swing Drills. This book is my accumulation of tried and tested golf swing drills used with my students over the years. They are genuinely “instant,” and I am sure you will enjoy the same experience. I strongly recommend starting the lessons in the sequence set out here. This will make sure you do not miss an important step in building or improving your golf swing. The quickest way to learn a motor skill is by repeating the movement over and over- again. Repetition after all is “the mother of learning.” Permanent changes are more likely and happen much quicker because you are also able to “feel” the movement. The object of this book is to help you feel the correct movements and become more aware of the correct movements through the exercises I have provided. There are over 100 photos demonstrating the exercise drills. Do not be fooled by their simplicity. They are tested, proven and effective. Important words and phrases are italicized for your benefit. Re –read them if necessary, and most importantly try to understand what you need to do before attempting the movement. Should you need any help with any part of this book, you have my full support for a 3 month period from your date of purchase. Contact me at [email protected] I hope you enjoy the book as much as I have enjoyed writing it, I am positive you will experience a better understanding of your swing, and see improvement from the exercises presented here. I look forward to hearing of your successes! Cheers to great golfing improvement!

Here is your Free lesson - Enjoy LESSON 14 - Understanding Swing Plane Many golfers never realise the importance of the swing plane and the effect it has on your ball flight. By now you should have developed and practiced the all important basic fundamentals for building a sound swing. My aim in this lesson is for you to gain a better understanding of your swing plane, know how to find it, and be able to correct any problems you may have. This is easy to achieve with the excellent exercise drill I have for you. It will help you develop your own perfect swing plane. Swing plane influences the direction you hit a shot, and the swing path of the club head is travelling in. These are two vital elements for obtaining consistency. If the club face angle is not facing your intended target at impact, and the swing plane and path are not correct, you are going to experience an offline shot. The best way to describe the swing plane is to stand behind a player from a down the line view and visualize a line drawn from the ball up through the base of his neck. The best description of the swing plane to date is Ben Hogan’s description. He described the swing plane by imagining a pane of glass (the size of a sliding glass door) parallel to your toe line, but resting on the target line where the ball is, leaning it over till it rests on either side of your shoulders, (assume a hole for your head is made) at about a 45 degree angle. The feeling you want to have is to swing the arms and club parallel to the pane of glass on the back swing and down swing without letting your arms or the club cross over and break the pane at any stage of the swing. Check the photos below where I am demonstrating this line and I have drawn another line below it to show where the arms and club should swing in a good swing plane. The general idea is to swing the club and arms inside both “panes of glass”

without the arms and club moving outside the two lines, nor loop in an anti clock wise direction with the hands on the way down but swing parallel to both lines. All this may seem easier said than done but many golfers struggle because they don’t know how to do this. I have a great exercise to help you find your correct swing plane. You need to understand that no players swing plane is the same since we all have different builds, strength and flexibility. The spine angle we create when standing over the ball determines the plane we swing the arms and club. How far we stand from the ball also determines the spine angle taken at address. To me it makes no difference if you swing flatter or upright, as long as you can do it consistently keeping the arms and club between those to panes of glass.

Let’s take a look at how you can easily do what I am talking about here with this great exercise. Swing Plane Exercise This easy to do swing plane exercise will get you into the correct swing plane in no time at all. Practice in front of a mirror as often as needed and you will be striking the ball with pinpoint accuracy in no time. Before you take up your address with the club ( I am using a 5 iron here). Cock the right wrist back on to your right forearm first. Get use to this movement first before moving on. Got it? Now take up your address with a club and cock both wrists back keeping the arms still in their original address position. The shaft of the club is more or less in a parallel position to the ground. Right elbow folded inwards towards the side of your body.

Swing the arms up allowing your shoulders to turn as fully as possible. What you will now feel is the perfect top of the back swing position for your club. The shaft parallel to your intended target line, the left wrist and thumb underneath the handle of the club, and the leading edge of the clubface parallel to your left forearm. See middle photo and the one on the right above. Now, from a top of the back swing position you want to bring the arms and club back down again in a reverse order. What I mean by reverse is, the lower body needs to lead, pulling the arms and club down to the same place they started in. Allow the weight to transfer back to your left side. The right shoulder will drop downwards with this move. Make sure you open the hips to the target as much as possible while the shoulders “square” up to the ball. Action plan

Repeat the movement I have described at least three times. On the fourth time release the club and finish the swing with your body fully turned to the left side. Face the target with all your weight over the left foot. There is no manipulation of the club with the hands in the back swing. This drill is a very effective one to practice. Many top pros use it to solve swing plane problems, and club head path through impact. Here is another bonus for you. This swing exercise serves two purposes. The second half helps with another important move in the golf swing and you can practice these two swing exercise drills together to build the correct down swing sequence of movements for your swing. Let’s go.. Once at the top of your swing move the arms, club down to the position it started in. Make sure your weight transfers to the left side, hips open up, right shoulder stays back and both shoulders are parallel to your target. Right elbow moves in front of your right hip and club is back to the same position it was in the beginning of the exercise. Repeat the move by swinging the arms back up to the top and come down again. Repeat a few more times and you will be building two powerful moves into your swing.
