Message from the Principal COVID-19 UPDATE

We are halfway through Term 3 already and there are still a few challenges ahead of us. You should have received information via the Parent Portal about the new state-wide updates to COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions in schools and I’d like to bring your attention to a few of these.

• Schools continue to be safe and operations are in line with the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee and New South Wales Health advice. All students should be learning on campus unless they are unwell or have a medical certificate to support their absence.

• In accordance with advice from New South Wales Health, parents and carers are reminded not to send children to school if they are unwell even if they have the mildest flu like symptoms.

Schools will make arrangements for students who present as unwell or have flu like symptoms to be sent home.

New South Wales Health have requested that schools encourage anyone who is unwell or has even mild flu like symptoms, to arrange to be tested through their local medical practitioner or one of the COVID-19 clinics.

• Students and staff with flu like symptoms will need to provide a copy of a negative COVID-19 test result before being permitted to return to school.

• Some activities are also on hold for Term 3 and I apologise for any inconvenience. The activities on hold include:

o Kindergarten orientation o Year seven orientation o Excursions and school camps o Parent and carer attendance at assemblies o Parent and Carer volunteers within the school.

• Physical distancing of students is not required under the HPPC guidelines. However, we encourage all parents and adults to remain 1.5 m from each other and practice positive social distancing.

SCHOOL UNIFORMS

In previous newsletters, I have mentioned that the school will be transitioning to a new school uniform throughout 2021. There have been delays in finalising the contract due to manufacturing issues, however, we hope to have some more information for parents before the end of this term. Please note that only the school shirt and sports shirt is changing.

LEARNING

A huge congratulations to all students and teachers who have managed to maintain a high educational standard set at Shell Cove public school. I am proud to be the principal of the school and of students who embrace learning with such positivity. To all the students at our school I say thank you for making me smile each day!

FATHER’S DAY GOLF DAY TOURNAMENT

There are still spots available for our Father’s Day Golf Day Tournament. This is a fundraiser that will help provide resources for the children. Please refer to the flyer in this newsletter on how to purchase tickets.

ONLINE ENROLMENT

We are excited to announce that the new Online Enrolment System is now available on our website.

The Online Enrolment System is designed to provide flexibility for our parents to submit an enrolment application online and at the time that best suits you. The application can be accessed on all browsers and mobile devices including iOS and Android.

The online application process is currently restricted to:

. Enrolments into local schools only;

. Children who are Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens or permanent residents; and

. Children who live in NSW.

We offer our support and encourage you to complete your application to enrol online. If, however, you do not feel comfortable completing an application online, a paper copy will be available for collection from the front office or can be downloaded from the Departments ‘going to a public school’ site.

Technical phone support is available for parents completing an online enrolment through the online enrolment system, together with the current online support form. Parents can call 1300 679 338 between 7:30am and 6:00pm, Monday to Friday.

PLEASE NOTE: If you have already submitted your enrolment form to the school you do not need to do the online enrolment.

BYOD DEVICES 2021

Are you looking to purchase a new device for your child? Upgrading? Early Christmas shopping? Preparing for Year 3 2021?

Shipping is charged at a flat rate and delivery should be within a few days depending on supply.

Stage 2 (Year 3/4) and Stage 3 (Year 5/6) students are required to bring a device to school each day.

If you need to purchase a new device for your child, we suggest either: Apple Ipad (including protective case and keyboard), Chrome Book or Laptop. All devices listed in the portal meet the school network requirements.

Please note you do not need to purchase a NEW device, this is optional. Students can bring in an older device, if it meets the requirements outlined in the note. The school does have a small number of shared devices, which are shared between 5-6 classes at a time so they are not always available for lessons.
