Counselor’s Role

· Same counselor all four years of high school

· Assists in course planning for graduation and post-secondary options

· Serves as an advocate for your student

Freshman Class Schedule Contains….

· English· Math· Earth Systems· PE/Health or PE/Drivers Ed· Speech/keyboarding· Electives· Seven periods total

· (lunch is determined by 4th hour teacher)

Schedules changes are limited and are not allowed after the third day of the

school year. Only if space is allowed in an alternative class.

If a student changes levels or drops a core course - a parent signature is

required.

Drivers Education

· Must be 15 by the first day of the classroom instruction.

· Must be successful the two semesters prior to taking the class.

· Attendance is critical in classroom.· Behind the wheel instruction comes after the

classroom instruction.· Behind the wheel does not show up on the

schedule. Students either drive out of PE, study hall or before/after school.

Student Eligibility

· WEEKLY - A student must be passing five courses each week to participate the following week in their extra-curricular activity.

· SEMESTER - If a student does not pass at least five classes at the end a semester - they are ineligible for the following semester.

Academic Resource Center

• Utilized during Study Hall

• Pass from academic class

• Staffed by teachers

• Free - Three week seminar to help students learn organizational strategies, note taking, general study skills, test taking tips.

• Parent meeting Sept. 10 6:00 p.m.

• Student sessions Sept. 17, 24, Oct. 1 6-7 p.m.

• Designed for incoming freshmen and are encouraged to sign up!

Study Skills Seminar

Quarter 1 and 3 – are Progress Reports

(Except for the quarter classes: speech, keyboarding, driver’s ed and the PE that is the opposite quarter of drivers ed.

Quarter 2 and 4 - Final grades stored on the transcript

High Honor roll (4.75 and up) and Honor roll (4.0-4.749) will be submitted to the paper

Report Cards

· Supplies – available on the website under the parent section

· Closed lunch for freshmen and sophomores· Hot Lunch Rates - $2.50 - A la Carte Available. Lunch

is during 4th hour and is determined by teacher. Utilize www.mymealtime.com

· PE Uniforms – Available at registration or from the PE office - $17 for uniform and $5 for lock

· Illinois Central School Bus - 416-1110

· Dress Code - If clothing is a distraction or inappropriate; students will be asked to change or face discipline consequences.

· Cell phones must not be used or seen during the school day.

· Attendance matters! After a student is absent 15 days, a doctor’s note is required for each and any day future absence.

· Review the student handbook for discipline and general information. (available on website also)

· Fall sports pictures are Aug. 18

· Open House – Aug. 29 – 6-8 PM

· P/T Conferences – September 16 in the teacher’s classrooms from 6:30-9 pm.

From the Main Office…

· Call a day before for a pre-arranged absence.

· Use circle drive to pick up/drop off your student.

· Call the Main Office by 1:00 to report an absence. 815-942-1294

Exam Dates

· December 19 – 1st, 2nd, and 3rd hour

· December 20 – 4th and 5th hour

· December 21 - 6th and 7th hour

· Students are not allowed to take exams early.

· Concerns about social, emotional,

and/or family issues that may be impacting school performance may be addressed.

· Each freshmen must have a physical examination and up-to-date immunizations as specified by law upon entering high school.

· This must be turned in by the first day of school.

IEP Students

· Students who have an IEP - You will be notified by special education on who is your child’s case manager.

· Mrs. Shelia Neuhalfen is our special education social worker.

The First Day of School

· Tuesday, August 21, 2012· Busses will run.· School will be in session from

12:00 pm - 3:05 pm.· Homeroom will meet for 10

minutes.· Each class will meet for 20 minutes.
