Recent professional activities & accomplishments: In 2006, I co-founded the Quit Doc Research and Education Foundation with our classmate Kirk Voelker. This non-profit foundation has been working on youth tobacco prevention and adult tobacco cessation activities throughout Florida. We currently manage the Tobacco Free Florida program in eleven counties, including six counties surrounding Gainesville. Visit our website to find out more! Family news: I have been married to Dr. Darby Sider for 23 years. We have two children. My daughter, Abigail, is currently a junior at The University of Florida (Go Gators). My son, Zachary, is a senior in high school and is currently applying to colleges throughout Florida. Soon, the nest will be empty... Other news/activities/hobbies: I am currently training for my first attempt at a half-marathon in Fort Lauderdale next February. I am still exploring amateur photography, so look for me on Instagram. Favorite memory of medical school and/or Gainesville: The thing I think about the most were the very clever theme parties that our class managed to pull together. Christmas parties, Art Shows and Beer Bashes, Biker parties. My favorite Gainesville night spot was the Purple Porpoise, and I am very sad that it is no longer on University Avenue. Favorite faculty member or advisor: My faculty advisor in Pediatrics, Dr. Joel Andres, is far and away my favorite faculty member. I understand he recently retired, so I will not be able to pop in on him during this reunion.

Recent professional activities & accomplishments: After 19 years in private practice Hematology / Oncology I decided it was time to move on and try a different career. I resigned from my practice and enrolled back into college to obtain my Illinois secondary school teaching license. This fall I will begin teaching High School Biology at De La Salle Institute, an inner city Chicago Catholic School. I am looking forward to the challenges of making a difference in someone's life though a way completely different from medicine. Unfortunately, being the "new teacher" at school, I will not be able to make it to the reunion......so, I will have to see everyone at our 30th reunion to let you know how it all turns out. Family news: -Nydia (COM class of 1990) is now working for Seasons Hospice as a palliative care MD in the Western Chicago suburbs. Loves her job. -Jim (21 years old) is a senior at Lawrence University (Appleton, WI) studying music, spending a semester in London, and planning on graduate school for music therapy. -Sean (18 years old) is a freshman at Purdue University in their engineering program. Plans on majoring in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering. -Amos (9 year old family Beagle) is now happy to have the house to himself! Favorite memory of medical school and/or Gainesville: A great medical education and a lot of fun with good friends

Family news: Both are children are now Gators. Tyler our son will be graduating Fall 2014 and has chosen to follow in our footsteps applying to medical school. Megan our daughter is starting her 1st year at UF Fall 2014. Favorite memory of medical school and/or Gainesville: Friendship, flag football with the dental students and Gary as our coach, mystery dinner parties, studying in the MDLs; holding retractors for the 1st liver transplant @ Shands; the week spent at Diabetes camp. Two daughters: Abigail Kathryn, born 1995, currently a sophomore at UGA, and Annabelle Grace, was born 1998, currently a HS sophomore. Other news/activities/hobbies: We enjoy time spent with our girls attending local, regional and Broadway performances (primarily dance and musical theater), rooting on the Georgia Bulldogs (I still root for my Gators first and foremost, but am outnumbered by Bulldog spouse and offspring!), and working with youth/worshipping at our church (Athens First United Methodist). Favorite memory of medical school and/or Gainesville: Skits! Still cannot watch Monty Python, Family Vacation, A Chorus Line or The Wizard of Oz without thinking fondly of our twisted renditions and the esteemed faculty and house staff we parodied! And a walk down the cereal aisle past Cracklin' Oat Bran (or is it Oak Bark?) still cracks me up thinking of Barry Hummel's cleverly crafted commercials and short films. Favorite faculty member or advisor: Craig Kitchens, MD (as an engaging lecturer, "star doctor," lumper vs splitter, Heme-Onc Attending at VAMC and director of Medical House Staff Program.) Cigarettes are still "cancer sticks," and I appreciate knowing when to treat and when to just go fishin'...
