She isa retired teacher and nursery director.Phyllis met her husband, Sidney Beck, Classof 1955, at House Plan. Sidney passed awayin September, 2004. He had two childrenwith Phyllis, Stephen and Laura, and wasthe grandfather of three.

In August of 1977, she graduated fromBrooklyn College, with an MS in special education. In 1976, she was elected to KappaDelta Pi, the honor education society for outstanding character and scholarship. From1972 to 2000, she worked as a fiscal manager for New York City's agencies: first in Off-Tracking Betting and then for the Human Resources Administration. Irma retired inFebruary, 2000 and she and her husband, Edwin, moved to Newport, Rhode Islandwhere they plan to settle permanently. After a year of retirement, Irma learned a wholenew field when she volunteered in the pharmacy of the local community hospital. Thenext year, as she continued to volunteer, she took a part- time job operating the hospi-tal's switchboard, something else she'd never done before. She is now training for a perdiem position in patient registration in the same hospital. When she took a medical ter-minology certificate course given by the hospital, she scored the only 100% in a classof seventeen students, all of whom were at least a generation younger than she. Thissuccess has encouraged her to consider going back to school to study health care andshe is now exploring the offerings of the local community colleges. Irma and Edwinhave been married for fifty-one years. They have three children, Steven, Jamie andJonie. The children are married and have two children each, for a total of six grandchil-dren. For fun, Irma rides her bike all over the neighborhood, walks the neighbor'sdogs, and takes care of her two miniature poodles. He majored in history, was a member of House Plan,and wrote columns for the evening session newspaper. He headed the ResearchDepartment of the American Zionist Council until 1956 and he worked in neighbor-hood youth programs connected to the YMHA and other community organizations.Herman earned his master's degree in anthropology from NYU in 1959 and attended apost-grad program in geology at the University of Minnesota. He retired as a socialstudies teacher at Theodore Roosevelt High School in 1984. For thirty years, he was thepresident of Temple Beth-El of City Island. He worked for the Volunteer AmbulanceCorps., serving as an active member of the medical team and performing administra-tive duties, including the training of new people. He was also a member of his com-munity theater group and an active member of his civic association and with youthgroups such as the Little League. Herman listens to and collects recordings of music,primarily classical, and enjoys photography. The Sunday Times crossword puzzle is oneof his passions. He has spent a lot of time writing his memoirs so that his children,Susan and Michael, and his four grandchildren can learn about their roots.
