My goal in assigning class duties or jobs is to teach responsibility, interdependence, procedure, and community. It is my hope that each of my students will gain an appreciation for work and build self-confidence as they learn to care for and maintain our classroom. InshaAllah, I will spend time instructing and rehearsing these duties in class. Please take some time to familiarize yourself and your child with these expectations at home. As always, please contact me if you have any concerns. Attendance Clerk The attendance clerk is responsible for monitoring student attendance (absent and late) on a daily basis. Data is to be reported to teacher. Bathroom Monitor The Bathroom Monitor is responsible for reminding students of appropriate bathroom etiquette while in the restroom. This includes wudu, hand washing, and proper paper towel usage and disposal. Any inappropriate behavior (such as wasting time, water splashing, and aggressive behavior) is to be reported to the teacher. Board Eraser The Board Eraser is responsible for erasing the white board between classes and upon teacher request. Caboose The Caboose stands at the end of the line and is responsible for turning off the light and closing the door. The Caboose also monitors line form and notifies students that are not following line procedure. Class Manager The class manager monitors the classroom for cleanliness as needed and at specific times during the day (arrival, lunch, and dismissal). At arrival time, check to make sure all student items (coats, backpacks, and lunch boxes) are stored correctly. At lunch time, check to make sure garbage is disposed of properly and that desks have been cleaned. Between classes, check that desks are straight and in the assigned formation (test, pair, and group). Du’aa Leader The Du’aa Leader is responsible for reminding students to make du’aa/athkar throughout the day (e.g. at lunch, entering and exiting the restrooms, masjid, and classroom.) Homework Checker The Homework Checker is responsible for checking in homework for correct format and completion. Incomplete or missing homework is reported to the teacher while incorrectly formatted homework is returned to student for correction. Librarian The librarian is responsible for keeping all bookshelves neat and orderly. This includes keeping books upright with spine facing outward. Line Leader The Line Leader is responsible for organizing the line before leaving the class. Students should be silent, facing forward, standing directly behind the person in front of them. The Line Leader is also responsible for setting an appropriate pace and navigating around any obstacles. Hand Sanitizer The Hand Sanitizer is responsible for distributing hand sanitizer to each student before lunch, after recess, and before handling the Qur’an. Meteorologist The Meteorologist is responsible for reporting the weather (high and low daily temperatures) to the class and alerting the class to outdoor recess cancellation due to inclement weather. Prayer Monitor The Prayer Monitors are responsible for monitoring prayer procedure and behavior during daily salah (dhuhr) and congregational prayer (salatul Jumu’ah). Table Washer The Table Washer is responsible for washing off tables, student desks, and any surfaces as needed and at the end of lunch using disinfectant wipes (1 wipe per 3-4 desks). Teacher Helper The Teacher Helper will perform duties as assigned by the teacher and may include collecting and distributing assignments, substituting for absent duties, and delivering messages and/or students to the administration (along with a buddy).
