WELCOME LETTER FROM FORM TEACHER,
MR ANG HIANG CHAI
CLASS FIVE-THREE
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to a brand new year!
It must have been as much a refreshing break for your
child/ward as it has been for me during the December holidays. I
trust we are all energised to gallop into the challenges and
opportunities that Year 2014 beckons.
Beginning academic year 2014, I’ve been assigned the form
teachership of Class P5/3 and will be teaching Mother Tongue
(Chinese), Pastoral Care and Health Education. I have been
teaching for 14 years and my motto is to bring out the best in
every child. Assisting me in this role is my co-Form Teacher, Mr
Roland Tan who will be taking the class English.
A good beginning is half the battle won. As an educator, I
firmly believe that the routines, expectations and classroom tone
must be set right at the outset before a safe and conducive
environment can be established for effective teaching and
learning through the year. Below are some basic classroom
administrative policies that I shall implement in the class, for
your information.
My preferred mode of communication is via the Pupils’ Diary
where essential matters are penned down for your information or
necessary action. This would typically include homejoy, alert notes
and other ad-hoc administrative issues. However, for urgent
matters, you may also text or reach me on my HP: 9221 8184 and
I would try to respond soonest possible.
Social media & online homejoy
As social media plays an increasing role in our lives today
where internet and computer-based learning forms an integral
part of a child’s self-directed learning, your consent in the
Pastoral Care booklet (page 5) will facilitate a rich learning
experience on the eLearning space for our pupils.
As much as we want to tap a diverse platform for learning
to take place which includes online homejoy, I wish to let you
know as a rule of thumb, that the online gross homework
component for all subjects should not exceed more than an hour
daily. This is for your supervisory purpose and also do remind your
child/ward to take regular visual breaks from the screen.
Our assurances
Together with my co-Form and other subject teachers, we
believe that we can make a difference to your child/ward’s
learning regardless of his/her starting point. However, this can
only be possible with your support and understanding. To this end,
I hope to engage your participation in your child/ward’s progress
and well-being in school.

For a start…
Term 1 is going to be fun, exciting and rigourous as the
curriculum is designed to allow pupils to orientate to the upper
primary environment, learn through discovery and bond with each
other through many teambuilding activities. Enclosed is a
timetable that we will follow from next Monday, 6 Jan, onwards.
At a later date, the respective subject departments will write to
apprise you of the curriculum details and assessment matters.
In the meanwhile, should you have any queries, please do
not hesitate to contact me via email ([email protected]) or
pen a note in your child/ward’s diary for my attention.
Alternatively, if you wish to speak with me, you may also
telephone me at 6769 7255 to leave a message. I will do my best
to respond to your email or phone message by the following
working day.
I look forward to a fruitful journey in the months ahead as
your partner in cultivating the love for learning in our blossoming
ones.
Yours sincerely,
Mr Ang Hiang Chai
