Please join
us for this year's
Christmas Cantata,
―Morning Star,‖ by
Lloyd Larson, on
Sunday, December
11th in our Classic
Worship Services,
8:30 and 11:00. The
Christmas story is
one of hope. It is a message for each of
us at any stage of life's journey remind-
ing us that in our own dark nights
Christ, the Light of the world, has
come. The blending of new and familiar
Christmas melodies ensures a meaning-
ful experience. Our congregation is in-
vited to share in this worshipful music
experience.
Following the 11:00 service, we
will have our annual Christmas Cov-
ered Dish Luncheon. Please bring
something to share, side dishes or des-
serts, and please bring extra if you can
so that our choir does not need to bring
anything. Meat will be provided.
Our choirs are always open to
new members. Choir meets in the Mu-
sic Room on Wednesdays for Men’s or
Women’s Ensemble (meets on alternat-
ing weeks) at 6:30pm and Chancel
Choir for Men and Women at 7:30pm.

Children and Youth Ministries The Children’s Ministry enjoyed their 2nd
Annual Fall Festival on Sunday, October 30th!
We had a tasty church-wide ―Halloweenie‖
Luncheon. What fun to see so many of our
church members participate in our Monster
Mash game (pictured)! After lunch, the children
participated in outdoor games,
including pumpkin bowling,
apple bobbing, hayrides, Op-
eration Christmas Child shoe-
box packing, and more! The
adults participated in a corn
hole tournament. Congratulations to our corn hole champi-
ons, Brian Shelton and Gabe Hotard! Everyone had a great
time! We are grateful to the many volunteers who made
this event possible, including the Church-wide meals com-
mittee for organizing the luncheon, everyone who brought food for
the luncheon, our game leaders, our Children’s Ministry Committee,
Katie Grady, Kelly Burgess, and Candice Holcomb, and others – we
couldn’t do it without YOU! Pictured: Thank you to everyone who
donated candy for Trick or Treat on the Clarkesville Square on Hal-
loween.
Our Youth Group enjoyed a full November! Some of our high school students and leaders went to the UGA
Wesley Foundation, the Methodist campus ministry, on November 16th. They explored the UGA campus, ate din-
ner, and then attended worship. It was a really awesome experience, as our students got to worship alongside hun-
dreds of college students. Just before Thanksgiving, the youth went to Josey and Brian's house for breakfast and
Bible study. After eating their fill of French toast, bacon, and fruit, Brian led the students through a discussion of a
passage from 1 Timothy.
Coming up, the youth will have their annual Christmas party and White Elephant gift exchange on Sunday,
December 11th. Students should bring a wrapped gift, one per person, valued at $10 or less. We will meet at our
usual time, 6:30-8:00pm, at The Connection. We will not have worship practice that night. The girls of the Youth
Group are also invited over to Josey and Brian's house on Monday, December 19th for desserts and a movie! More
details to come.
Save this date! The youth are taking another ski trip! This year we are headed to Winterplace, West Vir-
ginia, Friday, February 17th-Monday, February 20th. The cost will be around $300. This includes all meals while
we are in Winterplace (dinner Friday-breakfast Monday), lodging, lift ticket, helmet rental, ski/snowboard equip-
ment rental, and a ski/snowboard lesson. Signups will begin soon! For more information, including financial assis-
tance, please contact Brian Butcher, [email protected].

Church Library Update
CFUMC Preschool “Rooted in faith, growing in love”
The CFUMC Preschool will begin December
with David and Goliath, and our preschoolers will learn
that nothing is impossible for God! As Christmas ap-
proaches, the children will learn that Jesus is the greatest
gift of all. We will wrap up 2016 with our Preschool
Christmas Program at noon on Thursday, December
15th. Our program will be in the sanctuary and everyone
is welcome to attend. Pictured: the walls of Jericho came crashing down!
Our preschool is blessed by the support and generosity of the congregation. We wish everyone a
Merry Christmas and a blessed 2017!
Susan Weidner, Director CFUMCP
The Church Library has 1152 books, of which 20 have been checked out for over a year. If we could
replace them today with the average cost of $24.20 for each book, we would spend $483.93. If we apply that
same average cost to all ―card catalogued‖ books, one could see a valuable asset of about $28,000 – just in
books for which we catalogue. We also have 409 pieces of various forms of media (CDs, DVDs, VHS and a
few cassettes). Books that are not catalogued are the study books and guides for Sunday school classes and
Wonderful Wednesday classes, Bible Concordances, various study bibles, UMC Books of Discipline, Biblical
encyclopedias etc.
We urge you to take advantage of these valuable assets belonging to all in the Church. Our library in-
cludes books of fiction for those looking for a ―fun‖ read. Teachers for Wonderful Wednesday and the adult
Sunday school classes—come in and see if your class can use ―recycled‖ teaching materials. Moms and
Dads—we have children’s books available to check out. Keep your young ones reading during the Christmas
break! The Library is located in the Church Office, and it is open during office hours.

SERVE We lend a hand in our community!
Stephen Ministry: Stephen Ministry
is grounded in Jesus’ command to love one
another. Through one-to-one caring and confidential
relationships, those who are hurting receive the love and
care they need to support them. Monthly, Stephen Min-
isters gather with their Stephen Leaders for supervision
and continuing education. This month the Stephen Min-
isters will meet on Monday, December 5th, 6:00pm, in
the Connection, room C-16.
For more information or a confidential referral
to a Stephen Minister, please call Stephen Ministry
Team Leader, Ron Waters, or the Church Office.
Prayer Gatherings Tuesday Morning Prayer: Join us in the Con-
nection Ministry Building, room C-17, on Tuesday
mornings, 9:30-10:30am and pray in one accord with
other praying people. Together we can make a change
in our world. With all the things going on now in our
nation, we should have the Connection Building full on
every Tuesday morning. Your prayers will make a dif-
ference! You have an excellent employer, God, and He
pays extremely well. You will always get returns on
your investments with Him. God bless you!
Pat Foster, Prayer Group chairperson
Skeins of Love Prayer Shawl Ministry: Skeins of
Love invites others to fellowship with them and share in
this caring ministry. All skill levels are welcome. Yarn
and instruction are available. They gather each Thurs-
day at 10:00am in The Connection, room C-11.
Food 2 Kids: Looking for the perfect
Christmas gift for the person who has every-
thing? Donate to Habersham Food 2 Kids in
honor of that special someone. Checks may be made
payable to CFUMC, noted Food 2 Kids. An acknowl-
edgement will be sent to the honoree. Thank you for
Fleece Blanket Ministry: The Fleece Blan-
ket Ministry will not meet during the month of Decem-
ber. We are grateful to all
who participated on Mon-
day mornings or who
made blankets in their own
time. Many thanks to Cub
Scout Pack 5, who made
12 fleece blankets for the
children at Murphy Harpst (pictured)!
Thirty fleece blankets were delivered to Susan
Stroup at Murphy-Harpst Children's Home by Willene
Keel and Jennifer Boydstun on Monday, November
28th (pictured). These blankets were made through the
leadership of Jean Halsey with many
volunteers, including the Cub Scouts.
When a child comes to Murphy-
Harpst they will choose their blanket.
Murphy-Harpst is a mission of the
United Methodist Church.
If you would like to make a
donation to purchase fleece, you may
note your donation "Blanket Minis-
try". If you would like to purchase
fleece, please contact Jean Hulsey for exact require-
ments. You may also make blankets at home! The chil-
dren at the Murphy-Harpst Centers are surely blessed
by your efforts! The Fleece Blanket Ministry will re-
sume meeting on Mondays, 10:00am in the Fellowship
Hall, in the New Year.
Nursing Home Visitation: Join us at the
Habersham WEST Nursing Home at 5:15pm monthly
on the third Monday night (December 19th) and the
Habersham EAST Nursing Home at 5:15pm monthly
on the fourth Monday night (December 26th) for sing-
ing and fellowship with a sweet group of folks. For
more information, please contact Sandy Shell or call the
Church Office at 706-754-2677.
It has been several months since the introduction of a new ministry, CareMail, and things are going
great! Katrina Staples has been coordinating this new program of keeping in touch with church members and
letting them know their CFUMC family is thinking of them. We appreciate that Katrina is sharing her talent of
reaching out to others through greeting cards on behalf of the church. Forms are available in the Church Office
if you would like to request a greeting card on behalf of someone, or you may email Katrina,

Have you noticed our four brand new AED (automatic external defibrillator) units? It
pays to be prepared, and now we are thanks to the efforts of Perry Boykin, our Trustees, Ken
Iossi, the United Methodist Men, and others. The UMM’s Citrus Fruit Sale raised $1000 to-
wards the AEDs, and we are grateful! Thank you! For your information, our four AEDs are located in the
Admin Building to the left of the white board at the front of the room, outside the Sanctuary by the ramp exit,
outside the Fellowship Hall across from ladies restroom, and in the Connection inside the door by the kitchen.
During November our church hosted two AED training sessions. As of now, our church has trained 30
people in CPR and operating an AED in case of emergency. That’s excellent! If you have been previously
trained, please contact Perry Boykin, 706-968-4033, or the Church Office, 706-754-2677, to have your name
added to the list. Also, if you are interested in going through the training, please contact Perry Boykin.
The training takes about 3 hours to complete, but it is very thorough, hands-on, and highly informative. At this
time, there are no upcoming dates for training sessions, however, if enough people express interest, another
training session will be added in the new year.

If you would like to provide flowers for worship in 2017, the sign-up sheet is in the Narthex
on Sundays and the Church Office during the week. When you sign up for a Sunday, you are re-
sponsible for ordering the flowers from your favorite florist or creating an arrangement yourself
and providing a dedication for the Sunday bulletin. Thank you!
Sharing & Caring was very appreciative of our church's donation to their food
pantry from our Fill the Truck collection on November 13th. It was the "best ever!"
Every item was perfect and much needed. We also collected $310 in the Fill the Truck
special offering. Thank you, church family, for your generosity and thoughtful-
ness! We also wish to thank WA & Sue Trotman for providing the pick-up truck and delivering the food!

friends in the Redbird Mission Conference in Kentucky! We collected 23 pairs of mittens, 8 pairs of slippers,
12 scarves, 3 jackets, 32 pairs of socks, 25 hats, and many other items such as underwear. The warmth of your
generosity will help soften the harsh cold of the Appalachia winter!

I am so grateful for the prayers and many lovely cards and notes. This is a loving and thoughtful church. My thyroid

The Sharing & Caring Places of Habersham County gratefully acknowledge the gift from Clarkesville First United
Methodist Church Fill the Truck. Your donation will assist the Sharing & Caring Ministry to meet emergency needs of
the poor, the hungry, the abused, and the oppressed in our community. We sincerely appreciate your support. Bless you!
Frank Cahill, Volunteer, Sharing & Caring
It was so thoughtful of you to remember us during our time of loss. Your kind words and actions have been such a
comfort. It has warmed our hearts to see that our loved one touched so many lives. We are thankful to have friends like
you who are helping us during our time of bereavement. Galatians 5:22-23.
The Merrick Family: Bill, Andrea, and Heather
Dear friends in mission, thank you for partnering with the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR).
Through your gift, you are helping to provide humanitarian relief when war, conflict, or natural disaster disrupt life to
such an extent that communities are unable to recover on their own. Thank you for giving so generously.
Roland Fernandes, General Treasurer, General Board of Global Ministries
Dear Church Family, thank you being such a loving family, particularly in the last 14 months. I have often felt the
prayer angels when I so needed them. Starting with the Sweep Sleep Pillowcase that has been on my comfort pillow that
I carry with me. I read and re-read the many cards, text messages, and emails. The gifts, meals, and assistance have been
greatly appreciated. I am humbled and overwhelmed. I know this would have been much more difficult without your
love and kindness. Thank you again so much!

The Pastor’s Report
You will find plenty to do in December if you read the words of this
newsletter! The Advent and Christmas seasons can be very joyful times for
you!
Thank you for participating in the Bridging Generations Faith Com-
mitment Campaign. God bless all who have taken part thus far. We need many more to
come onboard to supporting Bridging Generations. This would be a great way to give a
gift to the church.
You are wonderful people! It will be my delight to see you at all the many events
in December as we celebrate the birth of Jesus those many years ago.
Love in Christ,
Pastor Brian T. Butler
