February 2014 Clark County Association for Home & Community Education “The Grapevine” Mission Statement of the Wisconsin Association for Home and Community Education HCE Offers Opportunities for: Learning in a social setting Sharing what we learn Caring to make a difference in our homes, communities, and the world Diana’s Notes . . . The Groundhog is promising us six more weeks of winter….I guess we usually get winter up until the end of March, whether he sees his shadow or not, don’t we? It is getting to be a long, cold one, at any rate. Saturday the weather cooperated for once, and we had a productive morning at the Loyal City Hall, learning about relationship building. About half of our clubs were represented, so if those not in attendance would like the information for club meetings, feel free to contact the extension office, and they can provide you with the packets. You do miss the instruction and feedback when you don’t attend the project lessons, however. In this newsletter you will find information about the mini-sessions for the Spring meeting in April, the Cultural Arts forms for you to fill out, and also registration for the West District meeting to be held Thursday, April 3. This one will be in Arkdale, a community I have never personally visited. It is located in Adams county, another one of our new counties. These meetings are open to people other than board members so look the registration form over, and see if it is something you would enjoy attending. We usually car-pool, so contact one of the board members if you are interested in attending. Just a reminder…our treasurer usually sends all the registrations in together, so send your registration and payment to Lois Becker, Loyal Wi. Att: West District meeting Just a reminder about the exciting trip to Door County being planned for this spring, just in time for the cherry blossoms, April 26. It is a bit more costly than most HCE trips, but I’m sure it will be well worth it. Registration for that was in the January newsletter and are due April 7. Seems like there is a lot going on in April, but I think by then people are going to be anxious to get out of the house and doing something! I am still hoping for someone willing to volunteer for the position of Vice-President. We are also in need of a third person for the Cultural Arts Committee. Neither one of these positions require much in the way of a commitment, so please consider volunteering. Here’s hoping to see you at many of these events this spring…in the meantime , stay warm and drive carefully! So far my record is once in the ditch, and once stuck in my own driveway, no damage either time. Don’t you just love Wisconsin winters? Diana Schuette HCE President

    20. Bonus Category—Build an Owl For the past two years our “Bonus” contest has been greeted with a lot of excitement and participation. We decided to do it again with another theme. This year we are going to try to have you build an Owl.

The bonus category is just for fun!!!! Note– There is a size restriction. No larger than 10” X 8” X8” (vertical and horizontal)

Here are the rules to enter 1. The display you use for your creation is of your choice 2. You can use any media to construct your entry. As with Cultural Arts entries, your entry should be judged in some way at the County level. Please bring only one entry from each county. The entry will be turned in with your other Cultural Arts entries and will be put on display somewhere in the conference center. This will not be a judged category– instead OWLS will be voted on by those attending the conference. Each person will receive a “vote slip” in their packets when they register for the 2014 WAHCE State Conference. Then it will be up to all attending to choose the best looking entry. We hope all counties will like the idea and join in the fun. Any questions contact Veronica Sustar, N2894 Overgaard Road, Mauston, WI 53948, (608)847-1140, email: [email protected]
