Essay : 200 Marks General Studies: 600 Marks Optional Paper: 1200 Marks Sub Total (Written test) : 2000 Marks Personal Interview:  300 Marks Grand Total: 2300 Marks

Now Total Marks in IAS Main 2013 is 2075

Breakup

Essay: 200 Marks English: 100 Marks General Studies: 1000 Marks Optional – 500 Marks Sub Total (Written test): 1800 Marks Interview: 275 Total Marks: 2075

Changed Scheme of CSM - 2013

The Weightage of Marks in the General Studies Paper have gone up to 48% from 26%

Previously: 600/2300*100=26%; Now its: 1000/2075*100=48%

The weightage of Optionals reduced from 52% to 24%

Previously: 1200/2300*100=52% approximately Now its: 500/2075*100=24% approximately

The weightage of Interview Marks is same as it was of 13%

Previously: 300/2300*100=13% approximately Present: 275/2075*100=13% approximately

Changes in the basic content of the Main Written Examination

There are changes in the Syllabus of Civil Services MAIN Examination 2013 and the new topics added to the syllabus include;

In Paper I- Essay comprising of 200 Marks, there is Section 2 where English Précis of 10th standard level is added

In Paper II General Studies – I part the History and Geography of the World and Society had been added

In Paper IV General Studies – III Disaster Management had been added along with Technology, Economic Development, Bio-diversity, Environment and Security

In Paper-V General Studies –IV Ethics, Integrity and Aptitude has been added

Changed Pattern: Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Tuesday released the notification for the examination pattern change in forthcoming civil services examination. The changes are subjected to mains examinations only. In Civil Services Mains Examination 2013 instead of two optional papers, now student will opt only one optional paper. Weight-age of General Study has been increased.

New pattern of Civil Services Mains Examination

Main Examination: The written examination will consist of the following papers:

Paper-I

Section 1 : Essay 200 Marks Section 2 : English Comprehension & English Précis 100 Marks (Of

Matriculation/ Xth standard level)

Paper-II: General Studies–I 250Marks (Indian Heritage and Culture, History and Geography of the World and Society)

Paper-III

General Studies –II: 250 Marks - (Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International relations)

Paper-IV:  General Studies –III 250 Marks (Technology, Economic Development, Bio-diversity, Environment, Security and Disaster Management)

Paper-V: General Studies –IV 250 Marks (Ethics, Integrity and Aptitude)

Paper-VI:  Optional Subject – Paper 1 -250 Marks

Paper-VII

Optional Subject – Paper 2 -250 Marks Sub Total (Written test) 1800 Marks Personality Test 275 Marks. Grand Total 2075 Marks

{Candidates may choose any optional subject from amongst the list of subjects given in para 2 below (Group 1). However, a candidate can opt for the literatures of a language, indicated in Group-2 below para 2, as an optional subject, only if the candidate has graduated in the literature of that particular language as the main subject}.

NOTE: Marks obtained by the candidates for all papers (Paper I-VII) will be counted for merit ranking. However, the Commission will have the discretion to fix qualifying marks in any or all papers of the examination.
