Welcome to the January 2012 edition of the CityScape

eGuide to Paris. Each month we take to the streets of the world’s most exciting cities to bring our readers the very best of all that they have to offer to both the visitor and the local.

This month we hopped on the Eurostar to find ourselves in The City of Light, a destination which is on many a ‘must-visit’ list and for good reason too. Whether you seek the breath-taking culture, the luxury retail scene or even the exquisite food and drink, Paris caters for every taste.

Musée du Louvre

A must visit for art fanatics and film buffs alike, this iconic museum even had a starring role alongside Tom Hanks in the blockbuster movie, ‘The Da Vinci Code’.

The volume and quality of work on display is awe-inspiring, not to mention it is the official residence of The Mona Lisa herself. However, be warned, you may need to designate a whole day to enjoy the museum, and all it has to offer, in its entirety. If you only have time to visit one museum during your stay, you cannot go far wrong by choosing The Louvre...

When in Paris travel like a local using the Métro or Métropolitain line, a chic French counterpart to the London tube which will take you anywhere you desire within the city limits, courtesy of its vast collection of 301 stations. Travellers can also appreciate the wrought iron detailing and Art Noveau inspired architecture at 83 of these stations, which are considered iconic symbols of Paris...

No trip to the French capital would be complete without a visit to the quinessential Parisian emporium - Ladurée. Renowned for their candy-coloured macarons and founded in 1862, the famous confectionists now have numerous addresses throughout the city, with the branch on the picturesque Champs-Elysées even including a restaurant and a tea room. Some of the best art in the world is often found on the street and Paris is no exception to this. Whether it is live music you are after, such as the glamorous, Forties quartet above, found outside of Notre Dame, or guerrilla graffiti, the streets of the French capital have it all in abundance.

One of the best ways to see Paris in its entirety? Take a trip up to the top of Montmatre, a 130 metre high hill which also gave its name to the surrounding area. It resides in the north of Paris in the 18th arrondissement and is a part of the Right Bank area.

Walk up the cobbled streets to take in the breath-taking view as well as the chance to see numerous artists hard at work, painting both portraits and landscapes taken from the surrounding scene...

Disneyland Paris

For the young and the young at heart, a visit to Disneyland Paris is a must. For all of the classics visit the Disneyland park, which is home to Mickey, Minnie and the gang and where you can see numerous all-singing, all-dancing

spectaculars throughout the day. Within the main park are five different lands, Fantasyland, Discoveryland, Adventureland, Frontierland and Main Street USA, all of which have different themes and attractions to appeal to their audience. Choose to spend your day in one or complete a whirlwind tour of them all to keep everyone happy! amongst many others, started their illustrious careers in the country and their stores can still be found in Paris today. The city is a hub of luxury fashion flagships, perfect for those with a discerning taste and a larger budget. The stores themselves are often as glamorous as the designs they house and for those whose purses cannot quite stretch to the high-end price tag, there is always window shopping…

Getting there...If you are travelling directly to Paris from London, the Eurostar is by far the easiest way to get there. A journey time just over two hours means you can take in more of the sights and sounds of Paris without having to queue through customs or security checks. Leaving from the picturesque Victorian station of St Pancras in London, there are 32 timetabled trains each day to take you to Paris’ Gare du Nord station.
