City of Santee Recycling News Spring 2020 Celebrate Earth Day Every Day By Recycling RIght! You can make the most of your recycling efforts by being mindful of the items you place in your recycling container and avoiding contamination. Recycling contamination is caused when trash is introduced to the recycling stream. Contaminants can include items such as plastic bags, hoses, wires, liquids and food waste. These contaminants have the potential to ruin an entire batch of recyclables! For example, food or liquids placed in the recycling cart can contaminate paper and cardboard by saturating the materials and making it impossible to recycle! You can prevent this problem by following these simple rules to recycle right: 1. Empty all bottles, cans and beverage cartons before recycling. 2. Keep food and liquids out of your recycling. 3. Place items loosely inside your recycling cart, no plastic bags. See reverse for more information on how to recycle right!
