12th Annual Make a Difference Day

Although every day is a good day to volunteer, "Make a Difference Day" allows residents, businesses, schools, youth and service groups to join millions of volunteers across America in donating time and talents to better their community. Make a Difference Day is on Saturday, October 27, 2012 and a great way to help your community. Part of the country’s largest volunteer service effort, Make a Difference Day is hosted locally by HandsOn Santa Clarita, in partnership with the City of Santa Clarita. Last year, over 2000 volunteers participated in projects throughout the Santa Clarita Valley benefiting charities, health and family service agencies and schools. Projects are “hands-on” and create positive results in one day. Since 1997, HandsOn Santa Clarita has been providing support and resources to meet the needs of the Santa Clarita Valley community. They encourage volunteerism, promote philanthropy and build the capacity of local non-profit organizations by offering tools, training, networking, and connections to volunteers, groups, and businesses. SAVE MONEY WITH WM’S SUPER-SAVER PROGRAM! Many Santa Clarita residents are “Super Recyclers” and do not require a large trash cart at home. WM and the City of Santa Clarita remind “Super Recyclers” that they can save money and the environment with the “Super Saver” program. How do I sign up? Upon customer request, WM will provide eligible customers with a 35-gallon “Super Saver” cart. The “Super Saver” rate is 20 percent less than standard trash service. Customers who opt for this service must return their larger trash cart. Ideal candidates for the “Super Saver” program only fill their current 96-gallon trash cart about 1/3 full on a weekly basis.
