This did not allow the pier auger to reach required depths below the subgrade elevation for the new structure. Alternative options to complete the subgrade improvements were discussed with the geotechnical engineer. It was decided to delete the remaining geopiers and construct the foundation by open excavation with engineered aggregate base. This alternate method is less expensive than the Geopier method and results in a change in the original and current contract price. A change in conditions that affect the contract price generates the requirement for a Change Order.

Summary Statement:
During construction of the Geopier foundation for the new digester structure, the Contractor found large cobbles and boulders in some test piers. This did not allow the pier auger to reach required depths below the subgrade elevation for the new structure. Attached, please find three copies of Change Order No. 1 for the above referenced project.
During construction of the Geopier foundation, the Contractor found large cobbles and boulders in some test piers which did not allow the pier auger to reach depths below the subgrade elevation of the new digester structure. After consulting with the geotechnical engineer about suitable options to complete the subgrade improvements, it was decided to delete the remaining geopiers and construct the foundation by open excavation with an engineered aggregate base. The Contractor has also requested additional contract time due to downtime related to evaluating excavation conditions and to complete the proposed change order work. This change order will result in a credit to the City of $9,231.00. However, the credit may need to be offset by engineering expenses incurred in the additional construction time.
When all three copies of the Change Order have been signed by the City of Prosser, please retain one copy for your records, and return the remaining two copies to us for distribution.
