The City of Nightmares Nirmalendu Ghoshal
My girl, don’t you go to Jadavpur anymore My girl, don’t come back home after the darkProwling are the sharp toothed wolves in the darkTheir hunger is ravaging over villages & city roadsLaw is not for them; these are all trifle matters !
I know the faces of all these protestsYou are all my childrenBlood swells to roar in my vein and I screamOh my mother’s clothes are lost in the streetI only cry out- let them be saved !Raise the clamour, let your voice be made.
An aged father I am, remembering One day I also had my share of protestOne day I also walked on the road protestingAgainst the Bihar Press BillDwarvanga Hall echoed that clamourYou can still hear, it has the power
We want peace to prevail and not war to railStill I recall, Oh Comrade still I remember todayI hand you this white poster, banner Let you raise the clamour, let you use the hammer
Oh, the city’s nightmares have come backI only cry today & die of hatred.
