HVRF City Multi - System DescriptionHybrid VRF is next generation technology from Mitsubishi Electric, the world leader in VRF Solutions. This unique 2-Pipe Heat Recovery VRF System replaces refrigerant with water between the Hybrid Branch Circuit Controller and the indoor units. This revolutionary design removes the need for expensive and on-going leak detection servicing and is specifically designed for occupied spaces where quiet, energy efficient, simultaneous heating and cooling is valued. Hybrid VRF provides a truly integrated solution for hotels, offices, hospitals and schools where occupant comfort is paramount.

Put simply, Hybrid VRF is a 2-Pipe Heat Recovery VRF with water between the Hybrid Branch Circuit (HBC) Controller and indoor units. You can install and design it as VRF whilst enjoying the features of a chiller system. This provides a complete modern solution for office buildings, hotels, medical centres, schools, high-rise buildings, shopping centres and other commercial premises.

With water at the indoor units, Hybrid VRF provides comfortable and stable air temperature control with no refrigerant in occupied spaces, removing the need for leak detection.

The connection kits detailed in this brochure are prepared by KE KELIT Climate Control to ensure that setting up the Hybrid VRF System is as simple and straightforward as possible.

The HVRF City Multi has three different connection types. These connection types refer to the internal diameter (I/D) as detailed in drawings and specifications:• 20mm (I/D) - up to 5.6kW nominal cooling - indoor FCU size up to WP50• 32mm (I/D) - up to 9kW nominal cooling - indoor FCU size WP63 - WP80• 32mm (I/D) - over 9kW nominal cooling - indoor FCU size WP100 - WP125

KE KELIT’s pipe and fittings use outer diameters (O/D) in their product descriptions. Therefore, the connection types will require the following sized pipe and fittings as detailed within this catalogue:• 20mm I/D (25mm O/D KELOX Multilayer pipes and fittings)• 32mm I/D (35mm O/D COPPERFIX copper pipes and fittings)• 32mm I/D (35mm O/D COPPERFIX copper pipes and fittings)

  • 31Pressure Test Report & Procedure

    HVRF Pressure Test Report & ProcedureConstruction Project | Construction Phase:Customer | Representatives:Contractor | Representatives:Piping & Fittings System Material:Press Tool (Type/Manufacturer):Press Jaw / Adapter Profile (Type/Manufacturer):

KE KELIT recommends preforming a water tightness test, leak test, pressure test and reduced pressure test. These tests are only a snapshot of the actual state and cannot be a guarantee against installation errors. Visual inspections of the installation are recommended as an additional assurance that the installation is sound.

KE KELIT recommends performing the leak-tightness test on the basis of ‘pressure tests for radiator installations’ according to ÖNORM EN 14336.

NOTE: Prior to every pressure test, ensure that all points of the assembly instructions (page 18 to 25 of the KELOXTechnical Manual and page 38 to 43 of the COPPERFIX Technical Manual) have been conscientiously carried out.

When using ‘leak before pressed’ fittings, a functional test must be performed according to manufacturer’s specifications.

Pressure test gauges shall be accurate and easily read with an appropriately sized pressure gauge to accommodate accurate readings of testing pressures.

    1. Water Tightness Test

The systems shall be filled with filtered (clean) water from the lowest point up to the highest point and shall be vented, so that the system is filled with water and all air is removed. Having filled the system, the vents shall be shut, and the system shall be checked for water tightness.

Date of water tightness test:Position in the building:Filling water is clean & the pipeline is fully vented/free of air:Visual inspection of the installation:Insertion depth marks sited: Water tightness test completed by:Water tightness test witnessed by:

    2. Leak Test

For temperature differences > 10°C between the ambient temperature and the filling water temperature, a waiting time of 30 minutes must be observed for the temperature equalization.

The leak test pressure is recommended to be 0.5 bar up to a maximum of 2 bar, the sections of piping might need to be separated to achieve these testing conditions.

The leak test should be a minimum of 15 minutes in duration and can only be performed after equalization between the pipes (ambient temperature) and test medium (filling water).

The allowable test differential pressure for the leak test is 0.0 bar.

Please record leak test data on the following page

  • 32 Pressure Test Report & Procedure

Date of leak test:Leak test water is clean & the pipeline is fully vented/free of air:Temperature equalisation time observed:Leak test pressure:Leak test duration:Leak test differential pressure:Leak test completed by:Leak test witnessed by:

    3. Pressure Test

The pipe network must be tested with 1.3 times system pressure. Only use pressure measurement devices that allow a pressure change of 0.1 bar to be easily read off. The pressure measurement device should preferably be at the lowest position in the system. The temperature equalisation between ambient and filling water temperature must be taken into account after the testing pressure is generated. The testing pressure should be restored after the waiting time, if necessary. All containers, devices and fittings that are not suitable for the testing pressure should be disconnected from the system during the pressure test. The system is filled with filtered water and bled completely. During the test, a visual inspection is performed of the pipe connections.

KE KELIT recommends a testing time of one hour.

    4. Reduced Pressure Test

At the completion of the initial pressure test, the test pressure shall be reduced to 0.5 times the pressure test pressure (e.g. 11 bar reduced to 5.5 bar) and a further test time of 120 minutes shall be observed. During the pressure test and reduced pressure test, no loss of pressure is allowed.

KELOX Piping - Fire Passive ProtectionHow Do Fire Collars Work?Fire resistant collars crush plastic pipes during exposure to fire. In the event of fire, the plastic pipe will start to melt. In the case of most plastic piping, this occurs at a temperature of approximately 70°C. Once the pipe starts to deform, the intumescent material in the fire collar expands, closing off the plastic pipe. This intumescent material forms an insulating barrier which reduces heat transfer between compartments and closes off any gaps to stop the spread of smoke, fire and gas.

Fire collars are designed to reinstate the integrity and insulating rating of the fire resistant element which has been penetrated by a building service. Fire collars are suitable for installation in the various types of floors, walls and ceilings in which they have been tested.

KELOX Multilayer Pipe Fire TestingKE KELIT’s KELOX Multilayer piping has undergone fire passive protection testing via multiple third party fire testing companies within New Zealand and is currently being tested by more. KELOX Multilayer piping has been tested with plasterboard walls, rigid walls and composite floor.

KE KELIT’s KELOX Multilayer Piping fire passive protection test results are available to view as a technical manual on our website.

Please note: The KELOX Piping Fire Passive Protection technical manual is for informational purposes only. Please contact your preferred supplier featured within the technical manual for further information on their products. The technical manual is a living document and is under constant revision. Tool Maintenance & General GuidelinesRegular cleaning of press tools, jaws, adapters, and slings is necessary. These must be properly cleaned of all dirt, burrs etc. on a weekly basis OR when switching between different materials. If metal particles left behind are pressed into a fitting of a different material, this could potentially lead to pitting and further corrosion.

HVRF Tools - Purchasing Tools & AccessoriesNovopress ACO153The ACO153 press tool has many valuable features to make working easier, faster and safer. The ACO153, weighing only 1.7kg, has an LED signal located under the transparent start button which gives information about the battery and the status of the pressing unit. Thanks to the newly implemented Bluetooth Technology, device-related data can be viewed using the NovoCheck app.
