CASH FARES Passengers are required to pay the appropriate cash fare or use a bus pass each time they board the bus. The cash farebox only accepts U.S. coins, $1 or $5 bills. Drivers do not provide change or accept checks.

Half Fare Requirements: Passengers that qualify for half fares must present proof of their half fare eligibility each time they board the bus or they will be required to pay the full fare.

BUS PASSES All bus pass sales are final. Refunds and duplicate passes will not be issued. Cedar Rapids Transit is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged passes.

31-Day Passes 31-Day Passes are activated on the bus the day of first use and are valid for 31 days thereafter. When activated, the first use and expiration dates are listed on the back of the pass.

10 Ride Passes

When activated, 10 Ride Passes list the number of remaining rides on the back of the pass.

Student Sponsored Fare Program Sponsored fare agreements are in place with the Cedar Rapids Community School District, Kirkwood Community College, and Coe College that allows their students to ride without paying the student fare on all of our bus routes. Sponsored fare participants pay the student fares in advance, so their students do not have to pay when they ride the bus. The program applies to students only. High school & college students must show their school ID to participate.

DELAYS There are times when we will experience route delays beyond our control such as road construction, trains, inclement weather, accidents, etc. Please be aware that the mobile app may not be able to predict accurate arrival times and may not be able to show the bus on the app map.

WAITING FOR THE BUS

Download our mobile app at www.ridecrt.com for a list of all bus stops and bus arrival times.

Be early! Please arrive at the bus stop a few minutes ahead of the scheduled time.

Wait at Posted Bus Stop Signs: City buses will stop to pick up and drop off passengers only at posted bus stop signs along the bus route.

Detour Bus Stops: City buses will stop at most near-side corners when on a route detour. Please visit our website at www.cedar-rapids.org/transit for current detour information.

Traffic conditions, trains, inclement weather and other conditions beyond our control may cause the bus to run later than its scheduled time. Because of these conditions, transfer times at the GTC are not guaranteed. We will get late buses back on schedule as soon as possible.

RIDING THE BUS Please have your fare and half-fare ID card ready before the bus arrives.

After paying your fare, please sit in an available seat and remain seated until the bus comes to a complete stop. If seats are unavailable, please hold on to a handrail. Do not stand next to or ahead of the driver while the bus is in motion.

Please hold on to the handrail when standing and using the steps.

Please allow the driver to concentrate on safely operating the bus. Keep conversations with the driver to a minimum and avoid creating unnecessary distractions.

Ring the stop request signal approximately one block before your stop.

City buses cannot stop traffic. Please wait until the bus departs before crossing the street.

Passengers are not allowed to ride continuous round trips on the same route, even if they have a pass or pay additional fares. Please ride to your destination and depart at that location.

PASSENGER CONDUCT ON THE CITY BUS OR AT THE GTC

Cedar Rapids Transit wants to provide a safe and pleasant environment for all of our passengers. Please help ensure a safe and comfortable experience by being courteous and respectful to others. Unacceptable behavior infringes on the rights of others and will not be allowed. Please observe the transit system rules when on the bus or at the GTC. It is the passenger’s responsibility to understand and comply with these regulations.

Passengers that are in violation of the transit system rules will be requested by authorized personnel to discontinue the misconduct or to leave the bus or the GTC. Individuals that refuse a request to leave the bus or the GTC are subject to arrest for trespassing and may be denied future access to the bus system.

Cedar Rapids Transit reserves the right to monitor passenger behavior with the use of video cameras.

These activities are NOT allowed at the GTC or on the bus:

Smoking (this includes the use of smokeless or e-cigarettes).

Fighting, spitting, or threatening gestures.

Obscene, profane, or offensive language or written displays.

Rollerblading, skating, and skateboarding.

Loud, harassing, offensive or rowdy behavior.

Destroying, defacing, soiling, or removing transit property.

Throwing or sticking objects out the windows of the bus.

Soliciting, peddling, panhandling, or excessive loitering.

These items are NOT allowed at the GTC or on the bus:

Open alcoholic beverages.

Gasoline and other flammable liquids.

Fireworks.

Weapons (firearms, knives, etc.).

Toxic or illegal materials.

Bulky materials that cannot safely be carried on the bus or that block the aisle, such as large boxes or lumber.

Large or leaking bags of cans or bottles.

o One clean 13-gallon bag or two smaller grocery bags are allowed.

STROLLER & GROCERY CART POLICY For safety purposes, passengers must keep the bus aisle and doorways clear of all items including strollers, grocery carts, and personal possessions.

The wheelchair seating areas are reserved for passengers with disabilities and ADA mobility devices such as wheelchairs or walkers.

All children and/or possessions, such as groceries, must be removed from strollers and grocery carts and the strollers/carts collapsed and stored out of the aisle and doorways.

Passengers will not be allowed to board with larger strollers or other items that cannot be collapsed and safely stored.

Passengers may only bring aboard the amount of possessions that they can safely carry onto the bus in one trip.

Passengers are limited to items that can be contained in their personal space, which is no more than their seat and the adjacent seat. All items must be kept out of the aisles.

SERVICE & COMFORT ANIMALS Service and comfort animals are allowed on the bus and at the GTC as long

as the animal is under the control of the handler at all times.

Animals should remain on the floor or be carried, and are not allowed on the seats.

The handler is responsible for caring for, supervising, and cleaning up after their animal.

Animals that display aggressive or seriously disruptive behavior, such as growling or excessive barking, or pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others may be required to leave; however, allergies to or fear of animals is not considered a direct threat.

LOST & FOUND CR Transit is not responsible for items left on buses, in shelters, or at the

GTC.

Unclaimed lost & found items, including bikes left at the GTC, will be donated or discarded after seven days.

SHIRTS, SHOES AND PERSONAL HYGIENE Shirts and shoes must be worn on the bus and at the GTC.

Please keep your feet off the seats.

Personal hygiene must be maintained in a manner that does not result in offensive odors that are unavoidable and objectionable to other passengers.

EATING, DRINKING, MUSIC DEVICES, AND CELL PHONES Eating is prohibited on the bus.

Drinking is allowed on the bus if the drink is in a spill-proof container, such as a screw-top bottle or a coffee cup with a lid. Open beverage cans or cups without lids are prohibited.

Open alcoholic containers or the consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited on the bus and at the GTC.

Music devices are prohibited unless the sound can only be heard through earphones or the volume is muted to other passengers.

Please keep your cell phone conversations quiet. Inappropriate or loud cell phone conversations are prohibited.

BIKE RACKS ON BUSES Each bus is equipped with a bike rack that holds 2 bikes. Bikes are not

allowed inside the bus.

Children’s bikes should be loaded by an accompanying adult.

Please remind the driver that you will be unloading your bike when exiting the bus.

Do not leave your bike on the bus when you exit.

Cedar Rapids Transit is not responsible for loss, theft, or damage to bikes loaded onto the bike rack. Use of the bike rack is at the owner’s risk.

NO BUS SERVICE ON SUNDAYS & HOLIDAYS City bus service is not provided on Sundays and the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. When a holiday falls on a Sunday, the holiday will be observed the following Monday.

ADA ACCESSIBLE FIXED-ROUTE SERVICE Cedar Rapids Transit provides accessible fixed-route service in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). City buses are equipped with wheelchair lifts or ramps to allow passengers with disabilities to use the fixed-route bus service.

ADA PARATRANSIT SERVICE – (319) 892-5170 The City of Cedar Rapids contracts with Linn County LIFTS to provide paratransit service in accordance with the ADA. The ADA paratransit service is available to eligible passengers with disabilities during the same hours of service as the city bus service.

RELAY IOWA TELEPHONE SERVICE (800) 735-2943 (V) or (800) 735-2942 (TTY)

Relay Iowa provides telephone communication service for hearing impaired individuals.
