CUSTOMER BACKGROUND
Citigroup India is a part of the US $ 17.9 billion Citigroup. Citigroup is the largest financial services company in the world. It spans across 100 countries, has over 200 million customer accounts and employs over 275,000 people worldwide.
Citigroup India is one of the country’s most diverse and recognized financial service providers with revenues in excess of US $ 680 million. It has 5,000 employees nationwide, operating from 25 offices and branches across 18 cities. Its operations encompass a premier global corporate and investment bank and a well- estab-lished consumer business under the Citibank and CitiFi-nancial brands.
The global corporate and investment banking group provides a comprehensive range of financial services including treasury management, transaction services, securities custodianship, foreign exchange, fixed income & equities sales and trading and corporate finance to corporate clients, governments and financial institutions. Citibank India is the country's leading reta il bank with a history of innovation and customer service.
NEED FOR A SOLUTION
One of the value added services provided, by the bank to the Utility Providers (Telecom service providers, etc.), is the processing of the bill payments made in their favor across locations through ATMs, drop boxes and kiosks. The bank leverages its existing ATM and branch network, as well as tie-ups with other establishments to provide this service. Both cash and cheque payments are handled.
The bank has outsourced the clearance operations to vendors who are responsible for the clearance of the instruments & cash and depositing of the same in the bank. Such clearance and deposits are tracked through data entry sheets prepared by the agents. The bank does the final reconciliation and the funds are cleared for the utility provider.
Each outsourced vendor has developed its own software for the data entry operation pertaining to the utility provider handled by him or her. Previously, there were around 25 different software systems developed in various platforms for handling the transactions.
There were around 200 client specific reports needed to be prepared on a daily basis, and sent to the bank as well
as the utility provider for reconciliation and billing purpose. As there was no standard product that could cover the entire operations, most of the functions were carried out manually. The bank needed a solution to automate the entire business process and to improve their operations.
SOLUTIONThe proposed solution from Ramco had two sets of applications – a client server solution to address the needs of the collection agents (vendors) named Vendor Management application and the internet based recon-ciliation / billing solution named EasyPay.
The Vendor System facilitates data entry of cheque details and automates the validation of documents collected from kiosks & drop boxes. It tracks the entire lifecycle of processing, verification and report generation. The system provides customized MIS reports for each service provider.
The EasyPay e-Serve System helps the bank maintain the master data of vendors, generates reports of vendor transactions, and enables billing of both the clients and the vendors.

Ramco Systems bagged the order despite facing com-petition from a leading global provider of Financial Tech-nology Solutions because of its model-based solution delivery platform – Ramco VirtualWorks. The system runs on Sun Solaris server, Weblogic, Iplanet & Oracle 9i.
