Usually, a Professor requires citations on a paper to be in either the APA or MLA format. These formats are very different, and they are very exact: periods and commas are very important in each of these formats. If you are not certain of

• The rules for the APA format for each type of item being cited are different. In general, the format is:

• Author’s last name, Initial of author’s first name (if available) (date).Title of work (if this is a journal article, followed by the title of the entire work, italicized). For journals, this is followed by the volume number: issue number (date of publication) (If given): page(s); for books, this is followed by the Place of publication, Publisher.

For example, it would be possible to consult a search tool such as google.com, place the subject of apa format and the type of item being cited or simply apa format and obtain many results. Instead, you could use a web site such as easybib.com.
