Editor’s Mashable Eleanor Roosevelt – An American politician, diplomat and a humanitarian activist very well stated that - "Where, after all, do universal human rights begin? In small places, close to home -- so close and so small that they cannot be seen on any maps of the world. [...] Unless these rights have meaning there, they have little meaning anywhere. Without concerted citizen action to uphold them close to home, we shall look in vain for progress in the larger world."

Friend, every so often a thing comes to pass that is of such astounding importance that we must stand up and recognize it. We must place this thing on the pedestal it deserves and ensure that the precepts and policies placed by it are adhered to, appreciated and spread as far as the human voice will carry. Such is the sort of message carried by World Human Rights Day. Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December – the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted, in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This year, Human Rights Day kicks off a year-long campaign to mark the upcoming 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a milestone document that proclaimed the inalienable rights which everyone is inherently entitled to as a human being -- regardless of their race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. It is the most translated document in the world, available in more than 500 languages.

Drafted by representatives of diverse legal and cultural backgrounds from all regions of the world, the Declaration sets out universal values and a common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations. It establishes the equal dignity and worth of every person. Thanks to the Declaration, and States’ commitments to its principles, the dignity of millions has been uplifted and the foundation for a more just world has been laid.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights empowers us all. The principles enshrined in the Declaration are as relevant today as they were in 1948. We need to stand up for our own rights and those of others. We can take action in our own daily lives, to uphold the rights that protect us all and thereby promote the kinship of all human beings.

So this year let us all take an initiative and add our voice to this Universal Declaration of human rights. I would request all my Rotary friends to add their voice in a single line to the Declaration of human rights stated below in order to create awareness for basic human rights.

We stand today at the threshold of great event

Both in the life of United Nations and in the life of mankind

In 1948, the Universal Declaration of human rights was proclaimed as common standard for all peoples and all nations

It sets out fundamental human rights to be universally protected

All are equal before the law and are entitled without any discrimination to equal protection of the law

Everyone has the right to freely participate in the cultural life of the community

To enjoy the arts and to share in scientific advancements and its benefits

Patel addressed the crowd – admiring the unique inventiveness undertaken by RCRG, appreciating the member withholding capacity of our club and suggesting essentially required alterations to the concurrently progressing MSP efforts of uplifting the under privileged class through channelizing them in main stream economy, demanding sincere augmentation in Red Revolution movement, No Plastic Drive and Save Water schema. President’s Desk “When we learn how to work together versus against each other – things may start getting better and we may achieve the desired goals.”
