I’M NOT ONLY OPENING A DOOR.I’M LEADING THE WAY.”

Hi. I’m Eevie. And I’m proud to introduce you to Revolt — a groundbreaking initiative powered by Great River Energy to promote adoption of electric vehicles and a more sustainable EV future. Visit me at MNrevolt.com to fi nd out how you can benefi t and help us all move from where we are to where we want to be.

Dakota Electric’s wholesale energy provider Great River Energy recently announced the launch of Revolt, a pro-gram that allows our members to fuel their vehicles with wind energy at no ad-ditional cost.

Renewable sources are already part of Great River Energy’s power mix, but the Revolt program provides a more direct connection between wind energy and the electric vehicle driver.

“Our Revolt program allows consumers to further support the use of renewable energy. We are dedicating wind energy to completely cover the electricity that a

consumer uses to fuel an electric vehi-cle, for the vehicle’s lifetime,” said David Ranallo, Great River Energy Revolt pro-gram manager. “We're thrilled to offer this innovative program in our portfolio. We hope it acts as a spark to ignite a sustainable campaign to build aware-ness around electric vehicles in Minne-sota."

Members can sign up for the free pro-gram if they purchase or lease a plug-in electric vehicle or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle by Dec. 31, 2016. The program is also open to members who already own or lease one of these types of elec-tric vehicles. Up to four electric vehicles

Checking the conservation gauge just got easier! Members can now view the conservation gauge from their mobile device by visiting dakotaelectric.com. Mobile users will automatically be redirected to Dakota Elec-tric's mobile site where they can check energy conservation needs for the day and the following day.

Dakota Electric encourages members to save energy every day, but some days require extra energy-saving measures. The conservation gauge informs members when increased demand for electricity drives up wholesale power costs. Taking extra energy-saving measures during these times can help keep future electricity prices lower for all members.

You can also sign up for email alerts on peak and critical use days. Learn more at http://ow.ly/Oc22b.

electric vehicles (cont.)

Twenty-five years and $1 million in scholarships

per household may be enrolled in the program.

“Revolt allows our members to further support the use of renewable energy,” said Greg Miller, president and CEO of Dakota Electric. “This new offering also shows that Dakota Electric is taking a leadership role in promoting the use of electric vehicles in our service area and having a positive impact on the environment.”

Great River Energy can ensure that Revolt participants’ electric vehicles are 100 percent wind powered by utilizing renewable energy credits (RECs). When a cer-tain amount of wind energy is produced, a REC is created that embodies all of the environmental benefits of that energy. When you claim your upgrade, Great River Energy will dedicate wind energy RECs on your behalf, completely offsetting the energy used to power your electric vehicle.

While the vehicles will be completely powered by wind energy, standard or off-peak rates still apply for the electricity used to fuel them.

Signing up for Revolt is simple. Contact Dakota Electric's Energy Experts® at 651-463-6243 to sign up for Revolt and learn about the cooperative's electric vehicle charging programs.

Farmington Solar: One year later

The above graph shows the actual solar ouput on a sunny day. As you can see, the system reached its maximum output of 18kW and stayed there during the peak sun hours of the day.

The above graph shows the actual solar output on a day with a mix of sun and clouds. You can see for short periods of time the solar array nearly reached its maximum output on several occasions throughout the day. When clouds are passing over, the output drops significantly. On days like this, it is very important for utilities to understand the load characteristics in order to manage the distribution system.

It's been nearly a year since Dakota Electric, along with its wholesale power supplier Great River Energy, completed the installation of an 18kW solar array near its headquarters in Farmington. The joint project is being used to research the impacts of solar energy to the distribution system and evaluate the overall costs to integrate both large- and small-scale solar installations.

Since its completion, the solar array has performed very well, requiring little or no maintenance. However, the sun doesn't shine every day. Below are graphs depicting three distinct days with varying solar output.

If you are considering a solar installation, it is very important that you contact Dakota Electric for information on interconnection requirements. If you would like to follow the live solar output from the Farmington Solar Array, visit www.dakotaelectric.com.

DataBank, a leading provider of data center services, recently celebrated its grand opening and is beginning to attract customers to its new data center in Eagan. The 88,000-square-foot data center is known as a "co-location facility" and multi-tenant "carrier hotel." It provides an entry point for multiple telecommunications providers and carriers to connect from other cities, while providing the redundancy and reli-ability required by DataBank for its clients. DataBank is only the second "carrier hotel" in Minnesota, giving added reliability to data communications throughout the region.

"Both carrier availability and power diversity played a big role in our site selection for this data center facility," said Tim Moore, DataBank's CEO. "Throughout the process, Dakota Electric, Great Riv-er Energy and AccessEagan part-nered with us to see this project be-come a reality. We have the utmost confidence in all of them to deliver the robust network access, flexibility and reliability demands we require to deploy a flagship multi-tenant data center in this region."

Rebates and Incentives

Dakota Electric staff have worked closely with DataBank in helping the company receive sales tax exemp-tions and incentives from the State of Minnesota, as well as rebates from the coop-erative for DataBank's investment in energy-efficient equipment that supports the data center's operation.

Dakota Electric offers a variety of energy-efficiency rebates and programs to help small and large commercial members take advantage of energy savings for their business. To learn more, visit www.dakotaelectric.com/business/programs.

The Economic Development Association of Minnesota (EDAM) recognized Dakota Electric Association and the city of Eagan for their work in attracting national data center provider, DataBank.

The DataBank project was selected as the 2015 Business Recruitment Project of the Year not only for the immediate benefits of the project in terms of capital invest-ment and job creation, but also because of the long-term benefits to business development and the state and regional economy.

"We were very pleased EDAM selected the DataBank project for this award," said Mark Lofthus, Dakota Electric's economic development director. "This one project will help to expand business develop-ment opportunities throughout the region for many years to come."

DataBank's CEO Tim Moore cuts the ribbon at the data center's grand opening. The DataBank opening is the result of a multi-year effort by developers, the city of Eagan, Dakota Electric As-sociation, Great River Energy, AccessEagan, the State of Min-nesota and Greater MSP to bring a major data center to Eagan.

L to R: Tim Korby, EDAM; Jim Gromburg, DEED; Mark Lofthus, Dakota Electric; Jerry Blair, DataBank; Jon Hohenstein, city of Eagan; Tom Garrison, city of Eagan; Kris Edinger, DataBank; and Tom Lambrecht, Great River Energy.

planning to dig to contact 811. Doing so protects you and your property. For more information,
