A slice-of-life workplace comedy, My Fake American Accent chronicles six months in the lives of agents in a technical support call center, where speaking with an American accent is a prerequisite for the job. This ensemble comedy is an inside look into the maddening, sleep-deprived, caffeine-fueled lives of those who ply their trade in the call center industry.

Director Ray GibraltarNarrative / 80 mins / 2009

The complex semantic fabric of the film reveals potential for reflection about Philippine identity, so permeated with Roman Catholicism, about the manipulation of power, the naivety and weakness of the poor, about the class war but more frankly, about the country’s past and recent History, where the real monsters were (and are) very, very human...

He has received an award from the International Film Festival of Flanders-Ghent, Belgium in 1983; a Special Jury Award from the Manila International Film Festival; and the 2004 Gawad CCP Para sa Sining. Gallaga spent his elementary and high school years at De La Salle University in Manila, then finished commerce and liberal arts at the school’s Bacolod campus. As such, one can forgive the occasionally inaudible dialogue and spotty subtitles for the insider’s look at what was, quite literally, the opportunity of a lifetime. Of particular note to anyone with an interest in the state of our national athletics, the contrasting our facilities with those the boys found in England are enough to break the heart. Sadly, whether the sport is football, ice skating, or taekwondo, the notion that monetary rewards for athletic accomplishments are better put towards proper training and equipment remains one that escapes the Philippine national powers that be. Frequently reiterated throughout the film, is the program’s ultimate goal of creating and fostering a passion for football that could one day set the Philippines on the road to the World Cup. While that of course remains to be seen, the film bearing the “Little Azkals” name will stand as a loving tribute to those who have made it their dream.

About the Director: Baby Ruth Villarama is a producer and writer, known for Jazz in Love (2013), A Letter from Ifugao (2011) and Patta sin apu ku (2011). ____________________________________________________________________________________
