19 Patriots Memorialized at Lebanon Grave Ceremony
On April 24, 19 Patriots of the American Revolution buried
(in what at one time were 3 separate cemeteries) in
downtown Lebanon, Ohio, were commemorated with a
Memorial Ceremony and Grave Marker by the Cincinnati
Chapter Sons of the American Revolution
(CCSAR).
Among the 19, was a woman, Mary Craig
Dunleavy, the first woman to be honored by
the CCSAR. Mary served as a nurse, tending
to the wounded and ill in central
Pennsylvania.
The event was honored with greetings from SAR Ohio State President, James
Shaeffer and local historian, Mr. John Zimkus, who presented us with some
interesting information on a few of the patriots that were recognized today. Nearly
100 persons were in attendance, including more than a dozen descendants. The
event concluded with a flintlock salute and Taps being played
while the Color Guard poised in the “mourn” position.
This is becoming
an annual event,
as the CCSAR
has had similar
ceremonies the past two years
during the week of Patriot’s Day,
in 2014 at Spring Grove Cemetery
and in 2015 at Williamsburg
Cemetery in Clermont County.

CCSAR Posts Colors at the 120th Anniversary of the John Riley DAR Chapter
On Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 1:00 PM the John Riley Chapter of the Daughters of the American

Memorial Color Guard posted the 50 star flag of the USA, the Ohio State flag and the Flag of the DAR

To help celebrate the 120th anniversary of the chapter’s founding in the DAR organization which was
only five years old in 1896, the daughters decided to use the elegant “Tea”. After a 30 minute “meet and

Hamilton, a salutation from National DAR President General Lynn Young and a proclamation from Ohio
Society SAR President James Schaffer. Special honored guest OSDAR Regent Sandy McCann gave a
presentation, more than 20 other honored guests were present from various DAR, SAR and other local

April Honor Flight Return at CVG on 4/19/16
Seventy-two Tri-State veterans were treated to a one-of-a-kind trip to the nation’s capital with the first
Honor Flight of 2016 which departed Tuesday morning from Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International
Airport for Washington D.C.
The honorary veterans visited memorials and participated in ceremonies that honor their service to our
country. The trip is at no cost to the vets, a small token of appreciation for all they have done.
They say they are grateful for the opportunity and expect
to have an emotional experience. Honor Flight Tri-State
selects veterans from Greater Cincinnati, Northern
Kentucky and Southeastern Indiana.
The day’s excursion included visits to the World War II
Memorial, Korean War Memorial, Vietnam War
Memorial, Iwo Jima, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the
U.S. Air Force Memorial and other popular Washington
D.C. sights. Their return was through a posting of colors
by Compatriots Michael Blum, Michael Gunn and 20
others.
The Cincinnati Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution joined other local groups like the
Emerald Pipe Band who welcomed the vets home at 10:30 p.m. at CVG in the baggage claim level of the
terminal.
