CIES, the Comparative and International Education Society, is anacademic association dedicated to increasing understanding of educational issues,trends, and policies through comparative, intercultural, and international perspectives.CIES is the largest and oldest of 47 comparative and international education societiesaround the world. Its more than 3,000 individual members — researchers, analysts,practitioners, and students — represent over 1,000 universities, research institutes,government departments, non-governmental organizations, and multilateral agenciesacross the globe.CIES members explore educational issues related to schools, students, teachers, andadministrators — from early childhood and primary school to secondary and highereducation, as well as non-formal education and lifelong learning. Some compareachievement inequalities across socio-economic status, gender, ethnicity, and language.Others examine the relationship between education and cultural processes,democratization, globalization, economic development, and political conflict.

Established in 1956, CIES has attracted a diverse audience in working towards its missionto foster cross-cultural understanding and scholarship. ABOUT CIES 2019 SAN FRANCISCOCIES 2019 San Francisco is the 63rd AnnualConference of the Comparative and InternationalEducation Society, to be held in San Francisco,California, from April 14-18, 2019.

CIES Annual Conferences are academic conventionsattended by researchers, students, practitioners andpolicymakers interested in comparative andinternational education. As part of these events,Society members and the interested public gathertogether for scholarly and practical exchange, as wellas for debate and networking — via lectures, researchpresentations, workshops, book talks, social events,and more.

Each CIES conference has a theme that is intended toserve as a broad umbrella under which a wide rangeof work can be presented. This year’s conferencetheme is “Education for Sustainability,” which aimsto connects the CIES audience with a reconsiderationof human progress – by scholars, governments,corporations, international agencies, and civil societyat the grassroots level. This reconsideration is alsoreflected in the 2030 Agenda for SustainableDevelopment adopted by UN member states. Theagenda finds its power by setting goals and buildingpeaceful partnerships for the simultaneous pursuit ofhuman well-being and ecological integrity. Our themewill remind us that, while education is both a publicand private good, its impact is global.

This year’skeynote is expected to feature Jeffrey Sachs,Professor of Sustainable Development atColumbia University and special adviser to theUN Secretary-General on the SustainableDevelopment Goals.

Exhibits will be located across three foyerspaces within the Hyatt Regency SanFrancisco: Grand Ballroom, Seacliff, andMarket Street. This placement ensures thatexhibits are in an area of maximum traffic flow.

Your organization will be provided name badgesfor any representatives who will be stationed atyour tables in the exhibit hall. Please note thatexhibitor registration does not substitute forCIES 2019 San Francisco conferenceregistration, which permits full access toacademic sessions and social events. CIES 2019conference participants will need to registerseparately via the official conference website,cies2019.org. IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR EXHIBITORS

CIES has partnered with San Francisco-based companyFREEMAN to support CIES 2019 vendors with shippingneeds. FREEMAN will oversee drayage of materialsbetween its warehouse and the conference venue. Toguarantee timely arrival, you should plan for yourshipment to begin arriving at the Freeman warehousearound March 14, 2019. The cut-off date for receivingshipped materials is April 11, 2019.

After completion of vendor registration, FREEMAN willcontact your organizational representative(s) to providethem with an Exhibitor Kit. The kit will include specificshipping instructions for exhibitor materials, as well ascontact information for Freeman Exhibitor Servicesrepresentatives who can assist you with the shippingprocess.

While Wi-Fi internet service is expected to be provided byconference organizers, any additional requirements forpower strips, meter boards, dedicated internet lines, oraudio visual needs should initially be requested at the timeof vendor registration. After registration has beencompleted, FREEMAN will make contact for electrical andinternet order placement and payment. Audio visualrequests will be shared with the contracted AV vendor fororder placement and payment. Exhibitor requests for extraservices should be made by March 15, 2019.

Unless otherwise pre-arranged, CIES cannot return anymaterials. Leftover samples will be distributed to studentsand volunteers during the exhibitor dismantle period.

STANDARDS & APPROPRIATENESSThe Comparative and International Education Society (CIES)is a scholarly association dedicated to increasing theunderstanding of educational issues, trends and policiesthrough comparative, cross-cultural and internationalperspectives. Its approximately 3,000 individual members—researchers, policymakers, practitioners, and students--usedifferent conceptual frameworks to explore topics related toeducation. These include a focus on schools, students,teachers, and administrators, and on issues spanning earlychildhood and basic education to secondary and highereducation, as well as non-formal education and life-longlearning. Many CIES researchers compare learning and othereducational disparities related to wealth, gender, ethnicity,language, and socio- demographic status. Others examinethe relationships between education and cultural processes,democratization, globalization, economic development, andpolitical conflict. The discourses, practices and programs ofinternational actors—both governmental and non-governmental—are also an important topic of interest.

LIABILITY & INDEMNIFICATIONAlthough security service will be furnished at the HyattRegency San Francisco for CIES 2019 San Francisco, CIEScannot and will not be responsible for damage to, loss and/ortheft of property belonging to any vendor, its agents,employees, business invitees, visitors or guests. Each vendormust carry its own insurance. Vendors agree to make noclaim for any reason whatsoever against CIES, IUC, theirofficers, directors, employees, agents and authorizedrepresentatives, or the facility/hotel.

Vendors assume total and complete liability for the copy intheir promotional materials and warrant that same does notrepresent or contain false claims or infringe on thetrademarks or copyrights of others. Vendors hold CIESharmless from any and all liabilities or claims which may arisefrom any such infringement, alleged infringement, or otherclaims arising from the nature or content of theadvertisements, and agree to indemnify and to reimburseCIES for any and all costs, including legal fees, incurred as aresult of any such claims.

Vendors assume complete responsibility for the copy andartistic content of their promotional materials. CIES’s liabilityto vendors for any act or omission in connection with thereproduction of an advertisement or the performance of anyother obligation is and shall be limited to the cost of the ad orportion thereof.

ELIGIBILITY & TERMINATIONCIES reserves the right to determine the eligibility of anyvendor to sponsor, exhibit, or advertise as part of CIES 2019San Francisco and further reserves the right to reject anyapplication and/or limit space assigned to any one companyor product.

CIES reserves the right to terminate without notice a vendor’sright to sponsor, exhibit, or advertise if the vendor or any of itsrepresentatives fail to observe the policies outlined in thisprospectus, or if in the opinion of CIES, they conductthemselves in an unethical or unprofessional manner. Suchvendors will be dismissed without refund.

NON-ENDORSEMENTThe sponsorship, exhibition, or advertising of products orservices at CIES 2019 San Francisco does not constitute anendorsement by CIES. Vendors are not permitted torepresent that their products or services have been endorsedby CIES unless express written endorsement has beenprovided.

NON-SOLICITATIONSolicitation is allowed only in the exhibit hall. No organizationor individual without assigned exhibit space, sponsorship, orCIES endorsement will be permitted to solicit business ordistribute promotional materials during CIES 2019 SanFrancisco, being held at the Hyatt Regency San Franciscohotel.

PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEO RECORDINGPhotography and video recording is permitted during CIES2019 San Francisco proceedings and within the exhibit hall.Please be advised, however, that certain conferenceregistrants may have opted not to grant CIES and its affiliatespermission to use their image. IUC will help vendors identifysuch participants so that their requests may beaccommodated.

HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONCIES has reserved sleeping rooms for annual conferenceattendees at the conference venue at preferential rates. Visitcies2019.org for more information.

PAYMENT INFORMATIONPayment for sponsorships, exhibit space, or advertisementsmust be received in full by 28 February 2019. The full balanceis required in order to proceed as outlined in this prospectus.Available payment options include check, credit card, or wiretransfer.

CANCELLATION POLICYVendors shall give written notice of cancellation. If a sponsor,exhibitor, or advertiser cancels prior to 28 February 2019,CIES will retain $200 for handling and processing chargesand return all other fees. Refunds will not be made past 28February 2019 under any circumstance.
