Airoli commuters tweet complaintsagainst errant rickshaw drivers on the

Railway Twitter accountBy Crime Reporter

NAVI MUMBAI: Infu-riated with the dictato-rial behavior of some ofthe auto rickshaw driv-ers standing on theEastern side of theAiroli railway station, the commuters tweet-ed complaints on theRailway’s twitter ac-count.

While setting uprailway stations on theTrans Harbor Railway,CIDCO has also pro-vided parking space forrickshaws and taxistands in the premisesof all railway stations. On the eastern andwestern sides of theAiroli Railway Station,CIDCO has given aspace for rickshaw andtaxi stand. However, some rickshaw driversobstruct the path byputting their vehicleright at the entrance ofthe station and notstopping at the allottedrickshaw stand. Overthe past few months, the number of rick-shaws has increaseddrastically at the en-trance of the station, which is causing greatdeal of hardship to thecommuters.

“In the name ofshare rickshaws, theseauto drivers take con-trol of the space duringthe morning andevening pick-up hoursand at night by stand-ing at the entrance tothe railway station.Even after gettingthree passengers, therickshaw drivers keepwaiting for the fourthpassenger. This is alsoillegal”, said a com-muter.

Irked by the nuanceof the rickshaw driv-ers, several photos andvideos of the rickshawdrivers blocking theway toward the stationhas been put up on therailway’s Twitter ac-count as well as theRPF. While prompt ac-tion was taken by theRPF personnel de-ployed at the railwaystation and they in-

structed the auto driv-ers to park their vehi-cle at the allotted spotsonly, but as soon asthey left, the passen-gers said that theywere back to the sameold business. “Sternaction should be takenagainst the errantdrivers,” said a com-muter.

“We have receivedcomplaints from thecommuters who haveposted pictures as wellas videos of the errantauto drivers obstruct-ing the entrance of therailway station. Wehave written to the lo-cal police station alongwith the Navi MumbaiRTO and the CIDCOencroachment depart-ment to take actionagainst the rickshawdrivers,” said TurbheRPP Senior InspectorPK Vishwakarma.

Issue : 155 5 November, 2019

One of my friendswatched Ujda Cha-man, the new moviedealing with male bald-ness. I asked him aboutthe movie as he waslooking unhappy. Hesaid that movie was okbut he is hurt. I askedwhy? His answer was,“The movie showsmany incidents wherebaldness creates comicsituation, but how do Ifeel or people like mewho are tackling thisbaldness problems?”

I was stunned. Yesthe male and femalebaldness has really in-creased and it is devel-oping into a big prob-lem .We should have tothink about it deeply.Hair loss is happeningbecause of many possi-ble causes, includinggenetics, an underac-tive thyroid, cancertreatments or medica-tions for other healthconditions. And formany people, hair loss(alopecia) or thinninghair can result in a lossof self-esteem and it cancause depression, anxi-ety, and other emotion-al issues. Why the hairloss is so disturbing formen and women? Thereasons are societal aswell as psychological.Almost every society inthe world associatesluxurious hair withyouth, beauty, and goodhealth and for centu-ries, humans haveadorned themselves ina variety of ways — bytattooing, doing nailcosmetics, and hair-styles of all sort. Formany people, their hairis the epitome of beau-ty. When you lose yourhair — for whateverreason, it can make youdepressed. One of mycolleagues was takinghair treatment and hishair condition im-proved. He told me howhe was feeling so lostand many humiliatingthoughts about his per-sonality used to haunthim. He lost interest inhis work and he had to

Hair loss

and lives

affectedundergo psychologicaltreatment also.

Females are not farbehind in having theemotional trauma. Be-ing a female I can un-derstand how impor-tant hair are for ourpersonality. Generallywomen associate theirhair with their sexual-ity, sensuality, andbeauty. If you mentionhair, for many people itconjures up images ofwomen known for mag-nificent, flowing locks:like Dimple Kapadia

.When a woman losesher hair or has thinninghair, she starts to be-lieve that she is nolonger attractive. Hairis a key part of the malepsyche and for men, their hair representstheir virility. So likewomen, when they ex-perience conditions thatcause hair loss, a baldspot, or thinning hair, they believe they aren’tas manly or attractiveany more. So whateverthe cause of your hairloss, the key to dealingwith the emotional sideof thinning hair andbald spots is having theright attitude. You haveto believe that you aremore than hair. Youhave to remind yourselfthat hair loss itself isnot life-threatening. Itmay not be pleasantand it can be unfortu-nate, but you can live ahealthy life with thin-ning hair or a bald spot,Always remember thatyour true friends andfamily will like you foryourself and not for howmuch hair you have onyour head and sexuali-ty is nothing to do with

hair loss. For your owncomfort you can workwith beauty profession-als to find a hairstylethat suits you. You mayuse a wig, hat, or a headscarf that complementsyour sense of fashion. Ifyour hair is thinning, then keep it short rath-er than try to hide baldspots with obviouscomb-overs.

If the emotional im-pact of hair loss is get-ting in the way of liv-ing your life, get helpfrom a mental health

professional. Some-times hair thinning isdue to a conditionknown as Alopecia ar-eata .It is a conditionthat causes hair to fallout in small patches, which can be unnotice-able. These patchesmay connect, after-wards and then be-come noticeable. Thiscondition developswhen the immune sys-tem attacks the hairfollicles, resulting inhair loss. This condi-tion can result in totalhair loss, called alope-cia universalis, and itcan prevent hair fromgrowing back. If thehair does grow back,it’s possible for the hairto fall out again. There’s currently nocure for alopecia area-ta, but there are treat-ments that may helphair grow back morequickly and that canprevent future hairloss, as well as uniqueways to cover up thehair loss. For this typeof hair loss medicalhelp is necessary but

Collective effort for fruitful resultOf late, concern for environment is a buzzword. The environ-

mental concerns, which in the very recent past did not make anynews at all, today creates ripples across the globe as it is linked tothe very survival of the human race. Few decades back, it was notso because more than environment what was needed was food andshelter especially in the underdeveloped and developing coun-tries. So for their survival, the forest were being slaughtered mer-cilessly and it was already very late when it dawned upon the hu-man civilization that by doing so they were destroying the verynature which was nurturing them. The resilience of the nature andits finite ability to absorb onslaught has already been tested to itsbrim. However today, the awareness about conservation of for-ests and their environment at large has percolated deep down inthe society. The governmental and non-governmental organiza-tions are vying with each other to take a lead in the field. NaviMumbai too through its development authorities- CIDCO andNMMC does come out with programmes or drives for tree plan-tation.

Though the spirit for these drives is right but as regards itsimplementation, more hype is being created than the concreteimplementation of these programmes. Going by the statistics be-ing provided, Navi Mumbai should have had a very thick forestcover by now. The ground reality is unfortunately contrary to thesestatistics, which indicates that either the statistics is wrong or nofeedback or monitoring post plantation care is being done on thepart of the authorities. There seems to be no accountability for thehuge money being spent on such drives, which at least so far havenot yielded unfortunately to say any result.

Over the years the forest cover has been uniformly reducing. The green jungles full of life are being cut mercilessly and arebeing replaced concrete jungles in the process of unmindful ur-banization, which is disturbing the sensitive ecological balancecreated by nature. The climatic conditions are changing for worseand in a way by cutting trees we are literally closing the oxygenplants provided by nature although knowing quite well that theoxygen is one of the vital requirements for survival of life. Similar-ly in the coastal areas, especially in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, incidences of unmindful destroying of mangroves vital for ecolog-ical balance are regularly being reported. In a haste to bring inmore and more land under development, the mangroves are be-ing destroyed and illegal reclamation of land is being carried out. This is adversely disturbing the aquatic life.

Lot of authorities like CIDCO, NMMC, Forest department,Pollution Control Board have been created to control pollution. However, all these departments should be made jointly responsi-ble for addressing this grave concern for the very existence of thehuman civilization. This is not only to be limited to the govern-ment organizations. The non governmental organizations and ev-ery citizen of the country will have to continue in their own way inpreserving the environment, in particularly the trees, to ensurethat this human civilization does not get wiped out by its own acts.

Festivals are an expressive way to celebrate gloriousheritage, culture and traditions. They are meant to re-joice special moments and emotions in our lives withour loved ones. They play an important role to add struc-ture to our social lives and connect us with our familiesand backgrounds. I think we are with a much moredemanding work life than earlier and with the amal-gamation of cultures happening globally, we are losing

our cultural identity. Things have changed now. Our hectic lifestyle ismajorly to be blamed, also since most of the families are nuclear it be-comes very difficult to follow all those rituals of celebration. We are notpatient enough to go through all procedure due to lack of time and morethan that a lack of interest. Surely festivals are losing their originalcolours.Revathi Nair, Principal, Koperkhairane

NAVI MUMBAIKARS SPEAK Do you feel festivals are losing their original colours?

Yes slowly most of the festivals in the country are notbeing celebrated with much pomp and enthusiasm.Earlier when we were in our teens we used to enjoy allthe festivals and everyone used to contribute in theirown ways, but now slowly the celebration is fading. Whilesome of the festivals are still celebrated with pomp butmost of the festivals are losing their original colours.Avinash Jha, Businessman, Ulwe

Ganesh Chaturthi, Holi and Diwali of course have losttheir earlier charm. During my college days, I used tovisit Ganesh Pandals and used to be in queue till 4 amin the morning along with my friends and family, butnowadays there is no such bigger queue. Also there werelots of happiness, joy and enjoyment on everyone’s faceduring festivals but nowadays due to inflation the peo-ple are not able to celebrate it in a big way and the

reason all the festivals are losing their original colours.Sunil Ramakrishnan, PR Consultant, Vashi

Yes, festivals are really losing their original colours. There are many reasons for this. Joy of celebrating anyfestival in a nuclear family is completely different fromjoint family and we find joint families now. Second rea-son is, because of today’s busy life, we are not able tospend time for festivals. Many people infact do not evenknow why we are celebrating festivals? Last thing Iwant to mention is that few people want to celebrate

festivals in social media by sending messages or posting pictures. Theycelebrate the festivals without any joy. Vinod Kotebavi, Assistant Professor, Amrita School of Engineering, Amrita VishwaVidyapeetham

It is unfortunate that many of the festivals are losingtheir originality. The festivals are becoming high techand are losing their simplicity. The aim of any festivalis to celebrate with zeal and enthusiasm not only withfamily members but with neighbours, friends and wellwishers and spread happiness along the way.Dr. Punit Tambe, Koperkhairane

We are not celebrating festivals in their true spiritsanymore. We are indulging in extravagance, pomp andshow. I strongly feel that people are aping Bollywoodstyle and are forgetting their roots.Minakshi Agarwal, Kharghar

Save Aarey forestAs a resident of Mumbai for the last 60 years,

I am not against the Metro car shed being con-structed at the Aarey colony site in Goregaon be-cause we all know how vastly it would improveour transport system. However, all I want is to stop the trees in theforest area from being cut down because it has been there for hundredsof years and a lot of tribal people (Adivasis) who worship the trees livethere.

Felling of trees for the sake of constructing a car shed is not a wisemove. The trees must be saved by all means because like the cow, it issacred to some people.

Bengal blaze away in hazeFrom inviting India to bat on a slow surface to reaching the target in

style, Bangladesh stayed in command. Team India fare poorly on quali-ty index and lost the game by 7 wickets with 3 balls left. Inexperienceled to on field mistakes and poor decision making. First of all teamselection is questionable with push overs being given preference. Overappealing and trying to confuse field umpires did not work wonders inthe end. We lost to Bangladesh for the first time in a T-20 game. Thevisitors played well within their limitations in the absence Shakib AlHasan, whereas we repent on the absence of Virat Kohli.

Indian batting failed miserably. Bowling was of poor quality and thefielding was atrocious. Team India counted their chickens before actual-ly hatches and paid high price for complacency. Bengal blaze away inhaze while men in blue fail to rise to the occasion. In all, Team Indiatasted a T-20 defeat after Sourav Ganguly became President of BCCI.Now it is a do or die situation for Rohit Sharma’s side.

No solution in sight to the state’spolitical turmoil

BJP, Shiv Sena and CM Devendra Fadnavis are worried over theoutcome in forming the government. The perception of the BJP being aperfectly run unit in Maharashtra under his command, with dominanceover money, muscle and leadership, has come crumbling down in thelast few days as the deadlock over government formation stretches to 11days. Seeking to extract its pound of flesh after the BJP’s below par tallyin the election, the Shiv Sena has amped up the rhetoric. The stalematecontinues and the state Governor is just helpless watching the progressfrom a distance and look for an end solution to the pressing problem.

Letter to the Editor....

By Vinod C. Dixit

In his nearly 50-minute speech inBangkok, PM Modispoke on a range ofissues including thewelfare measuresrolled out by hisgovernment, hisreturn to power with abigger mandate in theLok Sabha elections, strength of the Indianeconomy, importanceof Indian diaspora inoverall growth of thecountry and how Indiais emerging as a“major power” globally. He clearly gavemessages that Indiahas decided to elimi-nate a big reasonbehind sowing of seedsof terrorism andseparatism.”

It is clear thatIndia has never bowedbefore terrorism andwill never do. Enoughis Enough. It is a hightime the Governmentof India should take afirm action. The timehas now come to teachPakistan what iscalled terrorism intheir words and thepower of unity that ourcountry has. Rightfrom 1971, Pakistanhas been playing withfire Thousands ofIndians includingsoldiers have lost theirlives. We can’t walk onthe path of peace anymore just give a revoltand bloodshed to themand show the worldthat our peace is ourstrength not ourweakness. We shouldknow with whom weare dealing with. Evennow if we go soft wewill continue becomingsoft target of Pakistan. The loss of life of theterrorists is not big forthem but the loss oflives of our bravejawans is morevaluable for us. Howlong this hide and seekgame will continue? Our Indian army isour precious jewel andwe can’t afford to loseanymore. Unless weact tough they won’tchange. India needs toput an end to all the

Modi’s big reason to throw outterrorism and separatism

terror outfits situatedin their land perma-nently.

Every terror attackis an act of war againstIndia. India till datehas been acting in away too far and socalled “matured anddiplomatic” way, at thecost of its brave sol-diers’ and their fami-lies’ lives and future, but with little fruition.Restraint is not avirtue that can prac-tised without regard tothe context andcircumstances. Indiacannot take suchattack instant specificbut on policy to haveeternal mechanism tohandle Kashmir issues.India needs to have astrong anti-terrorismpolicy. It is imperativeto understand theterrorists’ operationalenvironment and knowtheir modus operandiand targeting patterns. There must be concert-ed efforts to gatherintelligence from placeswhere terroristsconceal themselves andseek to establish andhide their infrastruc-ture. Terrorism isstrongly condemned inall its forms andmanifestations andstressed that there canbe no justificationwhatsoever for any actsof terrorism. Terrorismof course is a majorproblem which isagitating every one ofus. Terrorism isgreatest challenge forworld society as it isnot only causinghuman suffering butalso impeding peace &development. Countriesshould ignore Pakistanand continue economic, cultural and scientificcooperation amongstthem. Some leadingnations of the worldover last 3 decadeshave ignored menace ofterrorism in some partsof the world. Modi hasrightly declared that“We are united in ourbelief that terrorismand its supporters haveto be punished, notrewarded.” His hard

line on Pakistanmarks a departurefrom India’s traditionof strategic restraint.Modi’s approach hasemboldened India’sneighbour to emergeas state sponsor ofterrorism. We need acomprehensive nation-al policy to deal withdomestic militancy aswell as cross-borderterrorism. We shouldbe pro active andshould take somestrict actions before welose more lives. Thereshould be zero toler-ance policy in actionnow.

We must rememberthat peace and harmo-ny is the basic require-ment of any nation. The citizens of acountry feel safe andsecure and can prosperonly if a peacefulenvironment ismaintained. Idealpeace demands thedevelopment of a non-nuclear, war-free,non-violent peacefulworld through con-scious global efforts. The old thinking: “Ifyou want peace beprepared for war” hasto be abandoned andreplaced by a firmfaith in the principle ofpeace through non-violent means andpeaceful internationalrelations based onequality and respectfor each other’sterritorial integrityand nationhood.

We must alsoremember that thegovernment cannot beheld responsible formaintaining peace andharmony in thecountry. Each one ofus should take it asour responsibility tonurture feelings ofbrotherhood withfellow citizens. Incontemporary times, the most urgent andimportant internation-al objective has been topreserve protect anddefend peace againstterrorism.
