LETTER F ROM THE PRESIDENTCiao a tutti,

During the month of January we had a wonderful Cena by our friend andguest Chef Gina Stipo. Grazie Mille, Gina, the food was magnico.

We have reintroduced the Guest Cena again on the 3rd Friday of themonth. Please continue to spread the word to your families and friendsabout this Cena. It is a great Cena and it is the same cost for everyone.

In February we have a new event on Feb. 9 that Paul DiCarlo (Jimmys

Food Store) is spearheading. A Sicilian Wine tasting which includesa 4-course meal which is being offered to followers of Jimmys and ourClub members. It promises to be a great evening. Hope some of you wil lbe able to attend since there is limited seating.

February 14 is our Valentines Day dinner and we know many of ourmembers, along with Melissa and her staff, are planning a night toremember and a moment to enjoy with that special person in your life.

It seems to me every month has something to celebrate or enjoy and thatsthe way it should be.

In March we are doing a Cena highlighting an area of Italy. The foodand wines wi ll reect that area and it is a suggestion that has come from YOU: asking us to hold a Cena like some of the regiona l Cenas we haveheld in the past.

2015 is promising to be a great year and as each month approaches wehave the old standard events like the weekly Cena and Pasta and Pizzanight, but we also are adding many new events for YOU.

Our goal is to cherish, respect and honor our culture and past in theClub while living in the present with new ideas and new events that alsocelebrate our cultures and build our membership base. Our future willbe determined this year as we ask ALL members to take a greater part insupporting the Club through their volunteer efforts, par ticipation at theevents, bringing in new members, while we to continue to implement theideas and suggestions you keep bringing to us.

All the Best to you and your family in 2015.Ken Venuso, [email protected]

A TTENTION A LL CLUB MEMBERS We have a tremendous amount of history in our Club and many wonderful members who donate their t ime and money to help spread ourItalian Culture and make this Club a place for all of us to come to enjoy with our extended familyour membership.

As of this Cicerone we are starting two features:

One is to respect, honor and cherish our history and past members whohave helped build this Club.

The second is to live in the present and to acknowledge people from ourcurrent membership base. We have members who give their time andefforts to this Club freely and do things for the Club because they want. The Club is like family, if someone needs help we go over to their houseand help out.

Going forward, the Board will take any nominee you would like to send with a brief article telling us why we should select them as one of ourfeature stories.

Keep in mind there is no specic order or rules to go by here, its just asimple criteria of saying GRAZIE MILLE to a member who help makesthis Club a better place.

    Ken VenusoPresident

G RAZIE MILLE - MEMBER OF THE MONTH This month we are recognizing a person notonly for all his past efforts but for his effortson a week to week basis.

    FRED NAPUR ANO

Since we changed our staff around therehas been a need for help in the kitchen area.Volunteers have been welcomed.

If you were to come by the Club late morningon a Wednesday you may see Fred cominginto the Club not to have lunch but to quietlygo into the kitchen area and put an apron

over his golf outt (not always), wash his hands and start looking for the vegetables Melissa has recently bought at Fresh Points.

Within a few minutes he is busy at work cutting and chopping vegetablesfor the antipasto table or for a soup Melissa is preparing.

There are no limits to what he will do in the kitchen because he is alsoa good cook and baker. Regardless of what task we have Fred can helphandle it.

As the clock nears 1:30 or sometimes later Fred will clean up and onceagain quietly walk out. He will be happy to say hello or good bye withan enthusiastic voice on his way out.

Later in the day as we come to Club for the Pasta and Pizza night we seeall the wonderful vegetables Melissa has out and thank her for a great

selection. Next time we see Fred lets thank him also for his tirelessefforts to support the Club.

    GRAZIE MILLE FRED

A LOOK B ACK GRAZIE MILLEAs a Club that stands for Italian culture, we have an obligation to honor and cherishour past. We have a group of individuals who are known as Founders. They helpedestablish and build the Club, which led to what we have today, a Club that is a place tenjoy being around friends and family andthe Italian Culture. It is up to our currentand future members to learn from our past

and to remember what these individualscreated, THE ITALIAN CLUB OFDALLAS.

Once again we are challenged to select someone who was there at thebeginning but our aim is not to single one person out because theircontributions are greater than someone elses. Our focus is on honorinand cherishing people from our past but in no specic order.

It is with pride we announce our rst Honoree of A Look Back

ROBERTO AGOSTI NI GR AZIE MILLE

Roberto was the rst president of the Italian Club. Like all presidentshis responsibility was to lead the Club and help keep everyone focusethe mission statement.

Here is a brief story about Roberto and what it means to our currentmember base to honor and cherish our past. Roberto was invited tospeak at a new member reception a little over a year ago. As chairmaof the membership committee, I introduced him to the new members. He told them about being the rst president of the Club and some of thmeetings were in his living room. One could look around the table ansee all the eyes of the new members directed right at Roberto. It wasnso much what he said as it was what happened afterwards. When thereception was adjourned many of the new members moved over to whRoberto was seated and all scooted their chairs around him. He talketo them and they visited with him asking questions and listening to hiregaling them with stories of what happened in the beginning.

It was clear to see that there was a respect for the past and the man wh was there at the start.

There are many occasions when you come to the Club and you seeRoberto with a party, whether it be his family or friends or the Italianconsulate from Houston, and you know indirectly and directly peoplesaying GRAZIE MILLE for helping form the Italian Club of Dallas. Today, as in the past, the Club is a place to enjoy some wine, eat some wonderful Italian food and visit with fami ly and friends.

Lungomare Rossetti via Cervara, 1016038 Santa Margherita Ligure

The Cervara, an ancient abbey from the fourteenth century with itsunique charm, is located on the road from Santa Margherita to Portono,in Ligur ia. The road leads to the natural wild forest, which conceals the

property with its Italian garden and terrace with a magnicent view overthe bay, but also the church and the buildings of the former Monastery.

La Cervara is the only monumental Renaissance Italian-style gardenpreserved in the Italian Riviera. The gardens won the prize grandigiardini italiani 2012 for the highest level of maintenance and care fora private garden open to the public. The garden had been abandonedfor years and it was only thanks to the great dedication and care ofthe current owners involving important restoration works that themagnicent gardens could be brought back to their former glory.

La Cervara Gardens areunique in that they directlyface the sea. They arealmost entirely surrounded

by the sea and coastline on one side the Gulf of Tigullio, and on the otherthe promontory of Portono which is rare as mostplants do not tolerate saltyconditions and heavy winds.
