New Executives for 2013

Stanley Yu - President

Camile Claros - Vice President

Mathilde Ho - Secretary

Jack Zhang - Bulletin Editor

Selena Lu - Treasurer

My name is Stanley Yu and I am a grade 11 IB student at Churchill. I got involved in Key Club because I really liked the volunteering and leadership aspect of the club. I ran for Presidency because I felt that promoting leadership and volunteering around the school is very important and I felt that this spot would give me the chance to accomplish this goal. My goal is to bring more projects to our school to promote Key Club and the message that our club carries and to make Key Club more successful than before.

Hello! My name is Camile Claros, and I am a grade 11 IB student at Churchill. I have been in Key Club since grade 9, and it was really exciting for me to become the Vice President this year. It is incredibly important to bring Churchill Key Clubers together, and make it a more united club where everyone knows each other. As the Vice President, that is going to be my goal for next year.

My name is Mathilde. I was born in Vancouver but I am Taiwanese. I'm the secretary of Churchill's Key Club. This is officially the best bio ever.

Hi, my name is Selena Lu, I am currently in Pre-IB diploma program at Churchill. I went to DCON 2013 and had an amazing time and hope to work as a great treasurer for Churchill Keyclub!

Jack Zhang here! I am currently designing this newsletter which is taking some time. I have just gotten to know Keyclub and it is amazing. Japanese born, ethnically chinese, but Canadian dominant. I am in IB and I am working hard to make this an awesome year!

President’s Message

My name is Stanley Yu and I am a grade 11 IB student at Churchill. I got

involved in Key Club because I really liked the volunteering and leadership aspect

of the club. I ran for Presidency because I felt that promoting leadership and

volunteering around the school is very important and I felt that this spot would give

me the chance to accomplish this goal. My goal is to bring more projects to our

school to promote Key Club and the message that our club carries and to make

Key Club more successful than before. As president I would like to lead my

executives into a successful at Key Club as we try to fulfill our projects, find

volunteering opportunities for members of our club, and to promote the club at our

school. My year as president will include making the best of Key Club for what Key

Club is about and I will be making sure that everyone understands that we are not

a club about key making and that we are a club that holds great importance and

that what we do is of great value. I will try to find fun ways to incorporate new

ideas that will bring a fresh image for Key Club at our school while also keeping the

key ideas of the club.

Keyclub in a nutshell

NO WE DO NOT MAKE KEYS! “Key Club International is the high school organization sponsored by Kiwanis International. Key Club assists Kiwanis in carrying out its mission to serve the children of the world. High school student members of Key Club perform acts of service in their communities, such as cleaning up parks, collecting clothing and organizing food drives. They also learn leadership skills by running meetings, planning projects and holding elected leadership positions at the club, district and international levels.

Key Club International brings together all Key Club's members' efforts and energies into an area that makes an international impact through the Major Emphasis, "Children: Their Future, Our Focus.” The Major Emphasis unites Key Clubs under the banner of service that deals with the most important part of our community, our youth.”

Keycutters 2013

Churchill Keyclub started a project called “KEYCUTTERS 2013” we initially set the project date for June 7th but seeing how the timeline is tight our exec team pushed the date until after Summer Break.

Keycutters is Churchill’s version of balding for dollars where students and teachers volunteer to shave their heads bald while other students, friends and family members donate money or pledge them to shave their heads. Students with hair longer than 6 inches will have their hair donated to BC Children’s hospital to me made into wigs. This was an amazing event and all proceeds go to BC Children’s hospital.

Yuda Bands

Yuda Bands are not “made from children” - Jennifer Zhen, but in fact are made by children in lower developed countries. In order for us to show our support, we simply purchase one of these bands and with enough bands we can send a child to school and provide them with an education. These bands look awesome, are not super expensive, and are simply amazing because they come from the heart. Promote and support children in Africa by simply either promoting the event or by purchasing one. :)
